A FATAL PULMONARY INFECTION BY NOCARDIA BRASILIENSIS [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2006
The reported case is of primary pulmonary nocardiosis, caused by Nocardia brasiliensis, in a immunocompromised patient, which ended fatally despite appropriate treatment. The partially acid fast filamentous bacterium was predominant on direct examination of the sputum. It was cultured on blood agar, MacConkey agar and by paraffin baiting technique. The

Genotypic and phenotypic prevalence of Nocardia species in Iran: First systematic review and meta-analysis of data accumulated over years 1992-2021.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
BackgroundNocardia species belong to the aerobic actinomycetes group of bacteria which are gram-positive and partially acid-fast Bacilli. These bacteria may sometimes be associated with nosocomial infections.

Central Nervous System Nocardiosis Due to Nocardia farcinica

open access: yesAnnals of Internal Medicine: Clinical Cases, 2023
Nocardia is an opportunistic aerobic, filamentous, gram-positive branching rod that infects immunocompromised hosts. Infections usually stem from the pulmonary, integumentary, or, rarely, gastrointestinal systems.

Population-based microbiological characterization of Nocardia strains causing invasive infections during a multiyear period in a large Canadian healthcare region

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The role of specific Nocardia species in human infections continues to expand as advanced methods enable species/species complex identification. We conducted a multiyear population-based (2010–2022) characterization of invasive Nocardia spp.

Actinomycoses and Nocardia pulmonary infections

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Pulmonary Medicine, 2006
Actinomycosis and nocardiosis are uncommon pulmonary infections with distinct morphologic features. Both infections most commonly present as chronic, debilitating illnesses with radiographic manifestations simulating lung cancer or tuberculosis. Immunocompromised hosts, however, may develop fulminant disease resembling acute bacterial pneumonia.

Sporotrichoid Skin Infection Caused by Nocardia brasiliensis in a Kidney Transplant Patient

open access: yesDiseases, 2018
Prompt and accurate diagnosis of Nocardia skin infections is important in immunocompromised hosts, especially transplant patients. The sporotrichoid form, which is otherwise known as the lymphocutaneous form of Nocardia skin involvement, can mimic other ...

Cerebral Abscess Infected by Nocardia gipuzkoensis

open access: yesInfection and Drug Resistance, 2023
Nocardia gipuzkoensis is a novel species that solely identified in patients with pulmonary infections by far. Growing evidence showed the excellent performance of metagenomics next-generation sequencing (mNGS) on pathogenic identification, especially for new species. Here, we described the first case of an elderly female patient suddenly suffering from

Isolation of Nocardia Otitidiscaviarum from a Case of Cutaneous Nocardiosis: A Rare Case Report

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dermatology
Nocardia species are Gram-positive, partially acid-fast, filamentous bacilli commonly found in soil, water, and air. In humans, Nocardia typically causes respiratory, neurological infections and, less frequently, cutaneous infections.

Nocardia pseudobrasiliensis Co-infection in SARS-CoV-2 Patients

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2023
During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, few cases of Nocardia spp. co-infection have been reported during or after a COVID-19 infection. Nocardia spp. are gram-positive aerobic actinomycetes that stain partially acid-fast, can infect immunocompromised patients,
