Metastatic Cutaneous Abscesses as Initial Presentation of Tuberculosis in an Immunocompetent Patient

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Metastatic tuberculous abscesses are a rare but clinically significant manifestation of tuberculosis. Cutaneous tuberculosis accounts for just 1%–2% of extrapulmonary cases, with cold abscesses being one possible skin manifestation. Skin lesions are most commonly acquired through hematogenous dissemination from distant foci of infection ...

Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis Secondary Infection: A Case Report of Achromobacter spp. Lung Infection

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Both pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and coronavirus disease‐2019 (COVID‐19) are risk factors for chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) and other pulmonary infectious diseases because of residual lung damage. We report a case of Achromobacter spp. infection following CPA in an immunocompetent woman with a history of PTB and COVID‐19.

Nocardia bacteraemia in an HIV-positive patient - a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Nocardiosis has been recognized in recent times as an unusual opportunistic infection associated with HIV. Bacteraemia due to this pathogen is even rarer and only few cases have been reported in the literature.

Impact of the Duration of Trimethoprim–Sulfamethoxazole Prophylaxis on the Incidence of Infection After Kidney Transplantation: A Target Trial Emulation Study Within the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS)—The QUID‐PRO‐QUO Study (QUIDney Transplantation and Duration of PROphylaxis With QUO‐Trimoxazole)

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, Volume 27, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
In this nationwide target trial emulation of 1,700 kidney transplant recipients, no differences in bacterial infection rates at 12‐month post‐transplant was observed between short (5‐7 months) and long (≥7 months) TMP‐SMX prophylaxis (9.1% vs 11.5%; adjusted risk difference +2.1%, 95% CI −0.5 to +5.3). Most infections were UTIs due to Enterobacterales.

Antigenic Protein Screening and Design of Multi‐Epitope Vaccine Against Lactococcus garvieri and Streptococcus iniae for Combating Lactococcosis and Streptococcosis in Fish

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 4, July 2025.
The image depicts the computational identification of B cell epitopes from Lactococcus garvieae and Streptococcus iniae, leading to the design of an epitope‐based vaccine for fish. It features a stylised fish with the targeted bacteria and illustrates the process of identifying B cell epitopes using bioinformatics tools.
