Variational Nodal Method for Solving P1 Equation

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
Starting from the neutron transport equation, the diffusion equation is firstly derived via the P1 approximation, and subsequently the neutron diffusion equation is obtained through the diffusion approximation.

Quantification of hydraulic redistribution in maize roots using neutron radiography

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2020
Plants redistribute water from wet to dry soil layers through their roots, in the process called hydraulic redistribution. Although the relevance and occurrence of this process are well accepted, resolving the spatial distribution of hydraulic ...

Synthetic mammalian pattern formation driven by differential diffusivity of Nodal and Lefty [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Abstract A synthetic mammalian reaction-diffusion pattern has yet to be created, and Nodal-Lefty signaling has been proposed to meet conditions for pattern formation: Nodal is a short-range activator whereas Lefty is a long-range inhibitor.

Impact of Disorder on Microscopic Superconducting and Normal‐State Responses in a Kagome Metal

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Using depth‐resolved, field‐ and pressure‐dependent μSR$\umu{\rm SR}$ measurements, we show that disorder in Ta‐doped KV3Sb5 drives a crossover from nodal to nodeless superconductivity while strongly modifying the normal‐state magnetic response. Our results reveal that disorder affects superconductivity and magnetism in fundamentally different ways ...

Topology‐Orchestrated Multi‐physical Energy Control in Turtle Shell‐Inspired Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A turtle shell‐inspired lattice metamaterial efficiently manages acoustic, fluid‐thermal, and mechanical energy flows simultaneously. The unique hybrid‐coupling architecture achieves superior sound attenuation via pore‐cavity resonance, facilitates effective airflow transport, and maximizes mechanical energy absorption through multistage cell ...

Transport Corrections in Nodal Diffusion Codes for HTR Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The cores and reflectors of High Temperature Reactors (HTRs) of the Next Generation Nuclear Plant (NGNP) type are dominantly diffusive media from the point of view of behavior of the neutrons and their migration between the various structures of the reactor.

Imide Substitution Drives the Supramolecular Assembly of Perylene Diimide Into Laterally Modulated Metallic/Semiconducting Molecular Patterns

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Imide substitution with bulky 2,6‐isopropylphenyl groups induces perylene diimide to self‐assemble on Ag(111) into a monolayer with two coexisting adsorption heights. Molecules closer to the substrate gain metallic character due to charge transfer from the metal, while farther ones remain decoupled and semiconducting.

2D Inorganic Electrides: Interstitial Electrons as Key Drivers of Multifunctional Properties and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Eight AB‐type 2D inorganic electrides with negatively charged transition metals are theoretically designed. Their monolayers exhibit intrinsic magnetic ordering, rich topological phases, and ultralow work functions. Supported metal Ru on these 2D inorganic electrides effectively alleviates hydrogen poisoning and enables efficient ammonia synthesis ...

Variational finite element method to study the absorption rate of drug at various compartments through transdermal drug delivery system

open access: yesAlexandria Journal of Medicine, 2015
Background: The delivery of drugs through dermal layers known as transdermal drug delivery is one of the important contributions in medical practice. It represents an alternative to oral drug delivery and is poised to provide a substitute to hypodermic ...

Neuron‐Derived MIF Engages VCAM1 to Fuel a Self‐Amplifying CXCL8 Loop That Drives Perineural Invasion and Metastasis in Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neuron‐derived MIF binds VCAM1 on gastric cancer cells and activates ERK/STAT3 signaling, leading to CXCL8 transcription and secretion. Tumor‐derived CXCL8 subsequently stimulates neuronal CXCR2 to enhance MIF production, establishing a self‐amplifying MIF–VCAM1–CXCL8 positive‐feedback loop that promotes perineural invasion, tumor progression, and ...
