Noise-like pulses in dispersion-controlled fiber lasers
Laser Physics Letters, 2023Abstract Noise-like pulse generation in ring lasers in which the anomalous dispersion of the cavity fiber is partially compensated by using a normal-dispersion fiber has been studied by numerical simulation. Solitons moving in this cavity are periodically subjected to temporal compression in the anomalous-dispersion fiber and expansion ...

Noise-like pulses under different intra-cavity nonlinearity
Optical Fiber Technology, 2021Abstract We report on the influence of the average nonlinear coefficient on noise-like pulse (NLP) in a figure-of-eight erbium-doped fiber laser. Since the nonlinear switching point of nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) shifts with distinct laser configurations, through changing the length of highly nonlinear fiber (HNLF) in NALM, properties of ...

Noise-like pulses: useful or harmful?
Quantum and Nonlinear Optics VIII, 2021Properties of noise-like pulses are analysed from the viewpoint of their employment as radiation carriers with relatively high energy. The difference from the well-known method of chirped pulse amplification consists in that instead of temporal stretching of a pulse prior to amplification, this technology relies upon redistribution of the pulse energy ...

Mechanisms of conversion of noise-like laser pulses into coherent pulses
Quantum and Nonlinear Optics VII, 2020This report analyses possible mechanisms of conversion of noise-like laser pulses into coherent ones with comparatively high efficiency. It is demonstrated that incoherent or partly coherent pulses can be promising for phase-insensitive pumping in processes where the structure of pumping pulses is not related to the structure of generated/transformed ...

Stretched Noise-like Pulse for High-Resolution Laser Ranging
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2022We reported a high-resolution laser ranging method utilizing the noise-like pulse stretched by the dispersive Fourier transform technique. The experimental results demonstrated a 1-cm spatial resolution within 2.861m range.

Buildup of Noise-Like Pulses in Ultrafast Fiber Lasers
2019 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2019Noise-like pulses (NLP) - the emission of sub-nanosecond incoherent pulses in ultrafast lasers — are a topic of widespread attention, owing to their fundamental and applied interest [1]. Their existence seems paradoxical, combining the high temporal localization of circulating pulses akin to mode-locking, with a fundamental instability that entails ...

Control of sub-pulse duration in noise-like structures
Quantum and Nonlinear Optics VII, 2020For the first time demonstrated are possibilities of control over the duration of sub-pulses within nanosecond noise-like pulse bunches, from 1.4 ps to 170 fs, through spectral filtering of radiation. The proposed method is implemented on the basis of an actively mode-locked Yb fibre laser.

Noise-like pulses: stabilization, production, and application
Journal of the Optical Society of America BVarious aspects are analyzed, which are related to the generation of unusual laser pulses with stochastic internal structure known as noise-like pulses. A new mechanism of their stabilization is proposed on the basis of an analogy between a noise-like pulse and a drop of soliton liquid. The properties of noise-like pulses are considered.

Modelling of noise-like pulses generated in fibre lasers
SPIE Proceedings, 2016The present paper for the first time proposes and studies a relatively simple model of noise-like pulses that matches the experimental data well and suggests that there is a correlation between phases of adjacent spectral components of noiselike pulses.
