Journal of Environmental Psychology, 1991
Abstract This research attempts to describe the situational parameters of neighbourhood noise which explain the level of annoyance and victims' reactions towards the noise originators. The sample of subjects (N= 284) was constituted so as to allow comparisons between age groups, sex, and three levels of social class.

Aircraft Noise, Hearing Ability, and Annoyance
Archives of Environmental Health: An International Journal, 1995The relationship between aircraft noise, loss of hearing, and annoyance was explored in a study in two schools located near an international airport in Taiwan. Sixth-grade students (N = 242) were recruited from two schools and were classified into high- and low-noise-exposure groups, based on environmental noise measurements.

A fuzzy model for noise-induced annoyance
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics - Part A: Systems and Humans, 2006This paper proposes a novel approach for modeling noise-induced annoyance using the fuzzy technique. The fuzzy approach offers a convenient way of representing the relationships between the inputs and outputs of a system in the form of simple IF-THEN rules.

Environmental noise-annoyance in Patras, Greece
Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 1988Noise pollution in most European and mainly Greek towns, is a major environmental problem. The annoyance caused by environmental noise is great and the use of a reliable descriptor of noise is important. This paper attempts to evaluate the noise fluctuations at an observation point by introducing a probabilistic model for the system environment-noise ...

Road traffic noise annoyance in Amsterdam
International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 19853445 persons living in Amsterdam (1507 male and 1938 female), aged 41-43 years, participated in an investigation in which the relationship was studied between the (measured) road traffic noise in front of the houses in which the participants lived, and the (reported) resulting annoyance and sleep disturbance.

Annoyance of aircraft noise in relation to background noise
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1978The effect of background noise level on the subjective response to aircraft noise was investigated. PAANI [Psychological Assessment of Aircraft Noise Index: developed by us—J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 63, 815–822 (1978)] has proved to be a good indicator and the detail will be mentioned.

The Annoyance of Tinnitus and the Noise Required to Mask It
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1983For 11 patients with tinnitus and sensorineural hearing loss, the intensity of bilateral broad-band noise required to mask the tinnitus increased by as much as 41 dB over a 30-minute period. A significant correlation was obtained between the rate of change in the noise over time and reported annoyance of the tinnitus as measured on a 5-point rating ...

Assessing noise annoyance: an improvement-oriented approach
Ergonomics, 2000A concept for practice-oriented assessment of noise annoyance at the workplace is presented. Employees evaluated the noise situation at their workplace by characterizing the loudest noise event with respect to relevant noise characteristics. The results from a first use of the questionnaire for Subjective Evaluation of Noise Characteristics in Office ...

Synthesis of social surveys on noise annoyance
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1978Since noise was first recognized as a serious environmental pollutant, a number of social surveys have been conducted in order to assess the magnitude of the problem and to develop suitable noise ratings, such that, from a measurement of certain physical characteristics of community noise, one could reliably predict the community’s subjective response ...
