A Theorem Concerning Noise Figures
IRE Transactions on Circuit Theory, 1956A theorem is formulated and proved which determines the greatest lower bound of the single-frequency noise figure of a general system consisting of n amplifying devices and passive coupling elements. According to the theorem, this lower bound is equal to the noise figure of an optimum system using a selected one of these amplifying devices.

The effect of feedback on noise figure
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1975Exact formulas for the effect of series and Shunt feedback on noise figure are derived. The resulting noise figure is expressed by the feedback impedance, the two-port parameters, and the noise parameters of the device without feedback. The formulas are useful when considering the effect of biasing network and package elements on noise figure.

Proceedings of the IRE, 1948
The subject matter of this paper first appeared in the form of laboratory reports. Outside interest in these reports prompted the preparation of the material for publication. Despite the attention given to noise and noise figures in the literature, the basic concepts are still little understood by the average engineer.

Noise Figures of Radio Receivers
Proceedings of the IRE, 1944A rigorous definition of the noise figure of radio receivers is given in this paper. The definition is not limited to high-gain receivers, but can be applied to four-terminal networks in general. An analysis is made of the relationship between the noise figure of the receiver as a whole and the noise figures of its components.

Amplifier noise figure optimization
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1968In the presence of lossy input filters, device noise figure data do not permit complete minimization of the amplifier noise figure F A . However, with L-filters such optimum can be obtained by a simple graphical construction on device noise figure records.

Noise and noise figure in microwave receivers
2013The investigation of noise and noise figure in microwave receivers was commenced in the fall of 1948 at the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School and was continued through the winter in the electronics laboratory of the Glenn L. Martin Company at Middle River, Maryland. This field work was done to give the writer experience in the measurement of noise figure
