Additive distortion measurement errors regression models with exponential calibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
In this paper, we used the newly proposed exponential calibration for the additive distortion measurement errors models, where neither the response variable nor the covariates can be directly observed but are distorted in additive fashions by an observed

AscentAM: A Software Tool for the Thermo-Mechanical Process Simulation of Form Deviations and Residual Stresses in Powder Bed Fusion of Metals Using a Laser Beam

open access: yesModelling
Due to the tool-less fabrication of parts and the high degree of geometric design freedom, additive manufacturing is experiencing increasing relevance for various industrial applications. In particular, the powder bed fusion of metals using a laser beam (

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Predicting weld distortion in the design of automotive components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This project was set up in order to investigate whether it may be valid to use a simplified approach to weld distortion prediction in order to make an assessment of the distortions occurring in a welded structure.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Effect of rolling on fatigue crack growth rate of Wire and Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM) processed Titanium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Titanium (Ti) alloys have been commonly used in the aerospace industry, not only because they have a high strength-to-weight ratio (comparing to the steels) but also their satisfactory corrosion resistance.

RoundMi: A quantitative method to analyze mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
RoundMi is a workflow for rapid analysis of mitochondrial morphology in mitotic cells. By combining adaptive preprocessing with automated segmentation and quantification, it enables accurate measurements from single focal plane images, reducing acquisition time and computational demands while remaining compatible with high‐throughput fixed and live ...

Distortion product otoacoustic emissions: challenging existing theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Distortion product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE or DP) are generated using two primary tones at frequencies f1 and f2 at levels L1 and L2; the two most prominent DP are cubic distortion products at the frequencies 2f1f2 and 2f2f1.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.
