Glucocorticoids and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2015
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the hepatic manifestation of the global obesity and metabolic disease epidemic and is rapidly becoming the leading cause of liver cirrhosis and indication for liver transplantation worldwide. The hallmark pathological finding in NAFLD is excess lipid accumulation within hepatocytes, but it is a spectrum of ...

The Prevalence of Metabolically associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease in Erbil City

open access: yesAdvanced Medical Journal
Background and Objective: The non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is prevalent in about one-fourth of the world population. The link between inflammatory bowel diseases and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has been of great concern in last decades.

Lifestyle modification in NAFLD/NASH: Facts and figures

open access: yesJHEP Reports, 2019
Summary: The development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is closely linked to lifestyle factors, namely excessive caloric intake coupled with reduced physical activity and exercise. This review aims to examine the evidence behind lifestyle change as

Carotid Intima-media Thickness in Patients with Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Attending a Tertiary Care Center: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2021
Introduction: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is fatty infiltration of the liver in the absence of other causes of steatosis. It is strongly associated with central adiposity, high body mass index, insulin resistance states, hypertension ...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with an increased incidence of atrial fibrillation in patients with type 2 diabetes

open access: yes, 2013
BackgroundThe relationship between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) in type 2 diabetes is currently unknown. We examined the relationship between NAFLD and risk of incident AF in people with type 2 diabetes. Methods ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Epigenetic silencing of the liver‐specific lncRNA LUNAR promotes liver cancer progression via NOTCH activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LUNAR is a liver‐specific long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that is highly expressed in normal liver but becomes epigenetically silenced in hepatocellular carcinoma through promoter hypermethylation. Loss of LUNAR is associated with NOTCH activation, epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and metastasis, whereas restoring LUNAR restrains metastatic progression ...
