Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.

Unveiling causal relationship between non-covalent interactions and evaluated Young’s modulus within oligolignols-cellulose complexes [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ Physical Chemistry
Linear correlation coefficients were calculated between the reported Young’s modulus (YM) values and non-covalent interactions within cellulose-oligolignol complexes, considering the composition of an efficient adhesive formulation previously reported. A

DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Covalent and Non-Covalent Strategies for the Immobilization of Tobacco Etch Virus (TEV) Protease on Superparamagnetic Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
TEV protease fusion proteins were prepared and immobilized on superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPIONs). Non-covalent (avidin-biotin) and covalent (HALOtag-chloroalkane) strategies were explored for TEV immobilization.

Strain‐Programmable Luminescent Adhesive Patch With Tartrazine‐Mediated Optical Skin Clearing for Photochemical Tissue Bonding

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Extending quantum-mechanical benchmark accuracy to biological ligand-pocket interactions

open access: yesNature Communications
Predicting the binding affinity of ligands to protein pockets is key in the drug design pipeline. The flexibility of ligand-pocket motifs arises from a range of attractive and repulsive electronic interactions during binding.

Improving secondary thermal conduction networks of polymer bonded explosives via covalent and non-covalent interactions

open access: yesEnergetic Materials Frontiers
Improving the thermal conductivity of polymer-bonded explosives (PBXs) is an important way to enhance the resultant adaptability of PBXs. This study aimed to optimize the secondary thermal conductivity network through the combination of covalent and non ...

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces
