Immediate Effect of Mirror Therapy Using Pegboard Training on Hand Function and Muscle Activities in Individuals With Asymmetrical Hand Function [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Rehabilitation Journal, 2023
Objectives: A proper function of hands is critical for doing daily activities and work, especially when using electronic devices. This study determined the effect of mirror therapy on individuals with asymmetrical hand function.

A comparison of the effect of two methods of positioning the hands during basic and advanced cardiovascular life support on the chest compression depth in adults [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Research, 2019
Introduction: There is no agreement on how the hands are positioned in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In this study, the effects of two methods of positioning the hands during basic and advanced cardiovascular life support on the chest compression ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

GENDER DIFFERENCES IN TECHNICAL FEATURES OF ELITE JUNIOR TENNIS PLAYERS AND IN THE TECHNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THEIR RACKETS

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai: Educatio Artis Gymnasticae, 2017
Introduction: The more precise observation of tennis players is essential to reach the best competitive performance in junior level as well. Objective: The aim of the research was to test the hypothesis that the majority of elite junior tennis players ...

Forward modeling of emission in SDO/AIA passbands from dynamic 3D simulations

open access: yes, 2017
It is typically assumed that emission in the passbands of the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) is dominated by single or several strong lines from ions that under equilibrium conditions are formed in a ...

Are you sure about that? Thought Confidence and Romantic Conflict Interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The thoughts that romantic partners generate during relationship conflict can greatly influence their attitudes towards their relationship and their emotional experiences (Baucom, Epstein, Sayers, & Sher, 1989; Bradbury & Fincham, 1987). According to the

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Asymmetric activation of the primary motor cortex during observation of a mirror reflection of a hand. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Mirror therapy is an effective technique for pain relief and motor function recovery. It has been demonstrated that magnetic 20-Hz activity is induced in the primary motor cortex (M1) after median nerve stimulation and that the amount of the stimulus ...

Drawing with the Non-dominant Hand: Implications for the Study of Construction [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Neurological Sciences / Journal Canadien des Sciences Neurologiques, 1998
ABSTRACT:Background:Constructional impairment following left vs. right hemisphere damage has been extensively studied using drawing tasks. A confounding factor in these studies is that right-handed patients with left hemisphere damage (LHD) are often forced by weakness to use their non-dominant (left) hand or hemiparetic dominant hand.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
