Non esterified fatty acids (NEFA) in dairy cattle. A review [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Quarterly, 2005
The objective of this report is to review the literature on elevated blood concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) before and after parturition in high-yielding dairy cows. It highlights the factors that influence serum NEFA production and their circulation before and after parturition, such as adaptation for nutrient partitioning for fetal ...

In vitro study of dietary factors affecting the biohydrogenation shift from trans-11 to trans-10 fatty acids in the rumen of dairy cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
On the basis of the isomer-specific effects of trans fatty acids (FA) on human health, and the detrimental effect of t10,c12-conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on cows’ milk fat production, there is a need to identify factors that affect the shift from trans-

Effect of a high forage: Concentrate ratio on milk yield, blood parameters and oxidative status in lactating cows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A feeding strategy that requires a forage: concentrate ratio equal to 70: 30, with at least five different herbs in the forage and the use of silages prohibited, has recently been introduced in Italy.

Gluconeogenesis in the Yolk Sac Membrane: Enzyme Activity, Gene Expression, and Metabolites During Layer Chicken Development

open access: yesThe Journal of Poultry Science, 2023
Yolk sac membranes of layer eggs were collected daily (n = 7–9) from day three of incubation to day three post-hatch, and mRNA expression and activities were quantified for key gluconeogenesis enzymes (glucose-6-phosphatase, fructose-1 ...

Hypothesis: ‘Vasocrine’ signalling from perivascular fat - a mechanism linking insulin resistance and vascular disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Adipose tissue expresses cytokines which inhibit insulin signalling pathways in liver and muscle. Obesity also results in impairment of endothelium-dependent vasodilatation to insulin. We propose a vasoregulatory role for local deposits of fat around the

Serum albumin-fatty acid saturation test

open access: yesMethodsX, 2019
Circulating non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) are toxic to mammalian cells. They increase in diseases such as diabetes and sepsis. Herein we propose a serum albumin-fatty acid saturation test.

Structural characterization of humic acids, extracted from sewage sludge during composting, by thermochemolysis–gas chromatography–mass spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Thermochemolysis coupled with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry were applied to determine the structure of humic acids (HA) extracted from a sewage sludge and straw mixture at different steps of composting.

Mechanisms involved in the selective transfer of long chain polyunsaturted fatty acids to the fetus

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2011
The concentration of long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LCPUFA) in the fetal brain increases dramatically from the third trimester until 18 months of life.

Insulin resistance associates with hepatic lobular inflammation in subjects with obesity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Purpose: Obese subjects with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are more prone to develop additional metabolic disturbances such as systemic insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
