The process of re-designing the geometry curriculum: the case of the Mathematical Association in England in the early twentieth century

open access: yes, 2011
This paper examines a key period of change in geometry teaching in England. Our focus is the character and nature of the recommendations of the 1902 geometry report of the UK Mathematical Association.

Functional models from limited data: A parametric and multimodal approach to anatomy and 3D kinematics of feeding in basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Basking sharks, Cetorhinus maximus (Gunnerus, Brugden [Squalus maximus], Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter, 1765, vol. 3, pp. 33–49), feed by gaping their mouths and gill slits, greatly reorienting their cranial skeletons to filter food from water.

Abstract

open access: yes, 2008
We present a method by which force-directed algorithms for graph layouts can be generalized to calculate the layout of a graph in an arbitrary Riemannian geometry.

On the discovery of non-Euclidean geometry

open access: yes, 2020
Treballs Finals de Grau de Matemàtiques, Facultat de Matemàtiques, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2020, Director: Carlos Dorce[en] The main goal of this work is to investigate the historical transition from Euclidean to non-Euclidean geometry, to ...

Statistical shape modeling of the human inner ear through micro‐computed tomography imaging

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
In this study, 54 cadaveric temporal bone specimens underwent high‐resolution micro‐CT imaging. Images were semi‐automatically segmented and converted to 3D surface mesh models for morphological measurement and analysis. Statistical shape models were created for the inner ear, cochlea, and vestibular system, as well as for sex‐ and side‐based subgroups.

Non-Euclidean geometry and the Pythagorean Theorem

open access: yes, 1998
I develop lessons to enable students to learn to use a dynamic geometry program. This program provides a tool to explore the underlying ideas in Euclidean and non Euclidean geometry including transformations and inversion.

Ontogeny of murine bony semicircular canal form

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The labyrinthine geometry and functional anatomy of the semicircular canals have intrigued scientists for decades, and there has been considerable interest in understanding how these complex structures grow and develop with evidence emerging from human studies that size maturation occurs exceptionally early by comparison with other systems ...
