Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Resource-efficient digital characterization and control of classical non-Gaussian noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We show the usefulness of frame-based characterization and control [PRX Quantum 2, 030315 (2021)] for non-Markovian open quantum systems subject to classical non-Gaussian dephasing.

Number counts and non-Gaussianity [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2013
We describe a general procedure for using number counts of any object to constrain the probability distribution of the primordial fluctuations, allowing for generic weak non-Gaussianity. We apply this procedure to use limits on the abundance of primordial black holes and dark matter ultracompact minihalos (UCMHs) to characterize the allowed statistics ...

Zoology of graviton non-Gaussianities [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2021
Abstract We characterize graviton non-Gaussianities in models of inflation where de Sitter boosts are spontaneously broken. We discuss which of the symmetry breaking patterns studied in Nicolis et al., 2015 [1] can sustain a period of quasi de Sitter expansion, and show that the symmetry breaking pattern of Solid Inflation allows the ...

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Statistical image fusion with generalised Gaussian and Alpha-Stable distributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper describes a new methodology for multimodal image fusion based on non-Gaussian statistical modelling of wavelet coefficients of the input images.

Extreme combination of wind effects and analysis of wind load characteristics for low-rise buildings

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
Based on transcendental probability theory, the probability density functions of two non-Gaussian scalar sums of wind effects are derived from the relationship between the probability density of the sum of random variables and the joint probability ...

Fluid Biomarkers of Disease Burden and Cognitive Dysfunction in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Identifying objective biomarkers for progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is crucial to improving diagnosis and establishing clinical trial and treatment endpoints. This study evaluated fluid biomarkers in PSP versus controls and their associations with regional 18F‐PI‐2620 tau‐PET, clinical, and cognitive outcomes.

Gaussian Process priors with uncertain inputs? Application to multiple-step ahead time series forecasting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We consider the problem of multi-step ahead prediction in time series analysis using the non-parametric Gaussian process model. k-step ahead forecasting of a discrete-time non-linear dynamic system can be performed by doing repeated one-step ahead ...
