Non-linear micromechanics of soft tissues

open access: yes, 2014
Microstructure-based constitutive models have been adopted in recent studies of non-linear mechanical properties of biological soft tissues.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Linear and Non-Linear Regression Models Assuminga Stable Distribution

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Estadística
In this paper, we present some computational aspects for a Bayesian analysis involving stable distributions. It is well known that, in general, there is no closed form for the probability density function of a stable distribution.

Non-linear Mixed Models in a Dose Response Modelling

open access: yesInPrime, 2019
Study designs in which an outcome is measured more than once from time to time result in longitudinal data. Most of the methodological works have been done in the setting of linear and generalized linear models, where some amount of linearity is retained.

Book Review for

open access: yes, 2007
xt has achieved its goal of presenting concepts in an understandable way to an audience familiar with the basic theory of linear algebra. The central theme of the text seems to focus on building models.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Generalizing Orthogonalization for Models with Non-Linearities

open access: yesCoRR
The complexity of black-box algorithms can lead to various challenges, including the introduction of biases. These biases present immediate risks in the algorithms' application. It was, for instance, shown that neural networks can deduce racial information solely from a patient's X-ray scan, a task beyond the capability of medical experts. If this fact

An approach to non-linear Bayesian forecasting problems with applications [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis is devoted to the analysis and modelling of time series and it is concentrated on models and techniques which are of practical value. In particular we developed a wide class of non-linear dynamic models which are useful in the handling of ...
