Quantum effects in non linear optics
2007 Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference, 2007Optical non linear interactions changing the statistics of a light field are often counteracted by dissipative processes. Artificial structuring of the non linear medium can reduce dissipation and enhance the effect of the non linearity.

Equalization of non-linear optical channels
ICC '98. 1998 IEEE International Conference on Communications. Conference Record. Affiliated with SUPERCOMM'98 (Cat. No.98CH36220), 2002This paper presents a comparative analysis of various linear and nonlinear equalizers for a high density optical channel. Since the read-out process is nonlinear, a suitable model based on the Volterra series has been adopted. We compare the performance and complexity of equalizers designed for linear and nonlinear channels.

Multimodal (Non)Linear Optical Nanoimaging and Nanospectroscopy
The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2022This Perspective highlights recent advances in linear and nonlinear spectral nanoimaging. The described developments are motivated by the need to characterize molecular and material systems noninvasively with nanometer spatial and femtosecond temporal resolution.

Electron crystallography and non-linear optics
Microscopy Research and Technique, 1999Electron crystallography can be used to obtain specific information about molecular parameters such as the polarisability, dipole moment, and hyperpolarisability. In this, work we show how a combination of quantum mechanics and simulation methods can be used to solve several unknown organic structures and how the calculated molecular parameters can be ...

Abstract It is shown that non-linear optical phenomena will occur when high intensity light beams interact with matter. Such light beams have become available with the invention of lasers. A review of the experiments performed with lasers to exhibit non-linear effects is given.

Non‐Linear Optical Transmission Systems
European Transactions on Telecommunications, 1993AbstractIn recent years much research has focussed on the development of high capacity optical transmission systems for terrestrial and undersea application. The development of optical amplifier repeaters has led to the situation where multigigabit transmission is required over very large distances.

We have assumed in previous chapters that the electric current density and polarization in a medium are linear functions of the electric field of an electromagnetic wave. The linear optical properties are defined in terms of these functions. The justification for the linear theory is that the applied field is much less than the atomic fields which act ...
