Optically non-linear organic materials
Optics & Laser Technology, 1981Abstract A large number of non-linear organic materials have been investigated by second-harmonic generation (SHG) in powders. The materials studied include several urea derivatives, sterically perturbed anilines and pyridines, and substituted stilbenes.

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses both the theoretical and experimental developments of the nonlinear optics. Nonlinear optics, like linear optics, must be separated into two distinct problems. The optical frequency dielectric constant is linearly dependent on an applied electric field; equivalently the optical frequency polarization has a ...

Non-Linear Optical Properties of Si Nanocrystals
3rd IEEE International Conference on Group IV Photonics, 2006., 2006Nonlinear optical refraction and absorption have been measured on Si nanocrystals grown by plasma-enhanced- chemical-vapour-deposition. Strong nonlinearities were found at 830 nm and at 1552 nm.

Light is composed of an electromagnetic field that can interact with the elementary charges in matter, whose response can in turn influence the behavior of the other light waves. When light passes through any material its electric field induces changes in the polarization of the material´s molecules.

Non-Linear Optical Signal Processing
1995Abstract : In this work we presented a two port nonlinear joint transform correlator with two complimentary results. This correlator is based on a two port photorefractive limiting quadratic processor. In the limiting regime we demonstrated experimentally and by computer simulation, that the correlation operation is like a phase extraction correlator ...

Non‐Linear Optical Transmission Systems
European Transactions on Telecommunications, 1993AbstractIn recent years much research has focussed on the development of high capacity optical transmission systems for terrestrial and undersea application. The development of optical amplifier repeaters has led to the situation where multigigabit transmission is required over very large distances.

Noble metal nanoclusters belong to nonscalable regime in which each atom counts. They exhibit molecular like electronic transitions, due to quantum confinement effects, which are strongly influenced by structure. These systems have potential for applications in biosensing and bioimaging, based on their unique optical, electronic and structural ...
