Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Topological Interpretation of Non-Linear Transonic Aeroelastic Phenomena [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Recent computational studies based on numerical solutions of the unsteady Euler equations have revealed hitherto unanticipated transonic aeroelastic phenomena characterized by non-linear flutter and divergence and interactions between divergence and ...

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

The Solar Wind as a Turbulence Laboratory

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Solar Physics, 2005
In this review we will focus on a topic of fundamental importance for both plasma physics and astrophysics, namely the occurrence of large-amplitude low-frequency fluctuations of the fields that describe the plasma state.

Lipopolysaccharide uptake is augmented in lipopolysaccharide‐tolerant mouse macrophage‐like cells via increased CD14 expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

QUADRATIC AND CUBIC NON-LINEARITIES IN A QUASI-LINEAR PARAMETRICALLY-EXCITED SYSTEM

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 1993
A quasi-linear oscillating system always contains weak factors (negative and positive frictions, exciting forces in resonances, non-linarites of restoring forces) usually characterized by a small parameters €.

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Utmost travelling wave phenomena to the fractional type nonlinear evolution equation in mathematical physics

open access: yesPartial Differential Equations in Applied Mathematics
In applied physics and engineering, non-linear fractional types of partial differential equations become increasingly prominent as an estimation technique to explain a wide variety of non-linear phenomena.

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...
