Improvement of Sickle Cell Disease Care Mitigates the Healthcare Utilization Induced by Increased Prevalence: Experience of a Tertiary Pediatric Center

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) has undergone major changes in the last decades. Its prevalence has been steadily increasing and numerous advances have been made in the management of the disease. However, the effect in real‐life setting of these major changes is unknown, particularly in a Canadian environment. Procedure We aimed to assess

Hybrid Fourier series and smoothing spline path non-parametrics estimation model

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, 2023
Pathway analysis is one way to determine whether there is a causal relationship between extrinsic and intrinsic factors. The linearity assumption is something that can change the model. The shape of the model is subject to linearity assumptions.

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Forecasting the Dialysis Burden in Japan: Validation‐Based Projections of Prevalence and Incidence Through 2050

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

Optimizing Image Focus for Shape From Focus Through Locally Weighted Non-Parametric Regression

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Shape from focus is a passive optical technique that uses multiple images with different focus levels. To compute the sharpness of each pixel in the image sequence, obtained by translating the object plane at a constant step size along the optical axis ...

Estimating equivalence scales and non-food needs in Egypt: Parametric and semiparametric regression modeling.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
This paper investigated the appropriate specifications of Engel curves for non-food expenditure categories and estimated the deprivation indices of non-food needs in rural areas using a semi parametric examination of the presence of saturation points ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Non‐parametric regression under location shifts

open access: yesThe Econometrics Journal, 2011
Summary: Recent work by \textit{Q. Wang} and \textit{P. C. B. Phillips} [Econometrica 77, No. 6, 1901--1948 (2009; Zbl 1182.62088); Econom. Theory 27, No. 2, 235--259 (2011; Zbl 1210.62126)] has shown that ill-posed inverse problems do not arise in non-stationary nonparametric regression and there is no need for nonparametric instrumental variable ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Non-parametric Regression

open access: yes
Abstract Unlike Chap. 6, this chapter focuses on non-parametric transformations of both the response and the explanatory variables. Transformation of the explanatory variables uses the Generalized Additive Model (GAM), described in Sect. 7.2.
