Visualizing power quantities under non-sinusoidal and time-varying conditions

2014 16th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power (ICHQP), 2014
Traditional analysis of waveform distortion assumes balanced and steady-state conditions. However, due to the widespread use of power electronics, non-linear loads and a multiplicity of harmonic-producing loads, power signals are becoming increasingly distorted and time varying. This complex scenario demands appropriate analysis. This paper illustrates

An improvement of active power filter control methods in non-sinusoidal condition

2008 IEEE 2nd International Power and Energy Conference, 2008
Shunt active power filters are custom power devices used to eliminate current harmonics and improve the power factor in systems with non-linear loads. Several different methods can be used to control active power filters, whereby the reference current that is detected from the load current and processed by the active power filter controller forms a ...

Measuring of active and inactive powers of active rectifier in non-sinusoidal waveform power grid

2016 IX International Conference on Power Drives Systems (ICPDS), 2016
The tasks of providing the necessary energy performance and minimizing the size and weight of energy systems requires apparent power and its components reliable determination. During the design of systems with semiconductor converters, due to non-linearity of its models, it is necessary not only to determine the components of the apparent power, but ...

The effects of integration intervals on recursive rms and powers measurement in the presence of non-sinusoidal conditions

2010 IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems, 2010
The effects of integration intervals on recursive rms and powers measurement in the presence of non-sinusoidal conditions are considered. The presence of time measurement intervals of both fixed and variable duration is assumed. Suitable formulas to evaluate the errors introduced by the desynchronization of measurement interval for active and apparent ...

A new interpretation of the phasor theory on powers under non-sinusoidal current

2007 International Aegean Conference on Electrical Machines and Power Electronics, 2007
This paper is aimed to finding the corelation between the instantaneous complex powers components and the steady state powers under non-sinusoidal current (apparent power, active power, reactive power and distortion power). So, to ascertain that compensating of alternative parts of instantaneous active and reactive powers establishes a sinusoidal ...

Research of Non-Sinusoidal Voltage in Frequency Converter of Medium Power Operation

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2015
The article presents the comparative analysis of influence frequency regulated electric drive and current electric drive to harmonic structure of voltage of power grid. There was obtained the dependence of total harmonic distortion (THD) of curve on loading power for 2 types of valve converters.

Non-sinusoidal Phase Modulations for High Power Laser Performance Control

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics/International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2009
We show numerically and experimentally that use of non-sinusoidal phase modulations instead of sinusoidal modulations improves high power laser performances. We demonstrate that pulse distortions are reduced for a same stimulated Brillouin scattering power threshold.

Apparent power ‐ a misleading quantity in the non‐sinusoidal power theory: Are all non‐sinusoidal power theories doomed to fail?

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 1993
AbstractTraditional non‐sinusoidal power theory does not reflect properly the energetic relations in non‐sinusoidal systems. To alleviate this situation several new power theories have been proposed recently. These new theories invariably rely on the definitions of the active power, the non‐sinusoidal apparent power and on the basic power equation, i ...

Estimation of power components for non-sinusoidal currents and voltages regarded as power quality indices

RE&PQJ
This  paper  deals  with  the  computation  of  power components  of  distorted  signals  seen  as  power  quality  indices. The  proliferation  of  nonlinear  devices  into  the  power  system results    in    nonlinear    voltages    and    currents    whereas    this unfortunate trend is supposed to increase.
