Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reactive oxygen species production during non-specific elicitation, non-host resistance and field resistance expression in cultured tobacco cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
[Abstract]: We examined production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induction of cell death in tissue-cultured tobacco cells undergoing different disease resistance responses. A superoxide-dependent hypersensitive response occurs during both the race-

A flow diagram of Chiari I Malformation compression injury and non-specific effects is presented.

open access: yes, 2014
Under “What,” the anatomical areas or types of non-specific effects are presented. Under “How,” the type of injury or state-dependent effect is presented.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Analysis of the evidence to support the definition of specific protection goals for terrestrial organisms—Part 1: Proposed strategy

open access: yesEFSA Journal
The review of the Terrestrial Ecotoxicology Guidance concerns three groups of non‐target organisms (NTOs): non‐target arthropods other than bees, in‐soil organisms and non‐target terrestrial plants. Thus, specific protection goals (SPGs) would need to be
