Six sequence variants on chromosome 9p21.3 are associated with a positive family history of myocardial infarction: a multicenter registry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Recent genome-wide association studies have identified several genetic loci linked to coronary artery disease (CAD) and myocardial infarction (MI).

Time‐Stratified Case Crossover Study of the Association of Outdoor Ambient Air Pollution With the Risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction in the Context of Seasonal Exposure to the Southeast Asian Haze Problem

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background Prior studies have demonstrated the association of air pollution with cardiovascular deaths. Singapore experiences seasonal transboundary haze.

Novel Insights Into the Effects of Interleukin 6 Antagonism in Non–ST‐Segment–Elevation Myocardial Infarction Employing the SOMAscan Proteomics Platform

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
Background Interleukin 6 concentration is associated with myocardial injury, heart failure, and mortality after myocardial infarction. In the Norwegian tocilizumab non–ST‐segment–elevation myocardial infarction trial, the first randomized trial of ...

Prognostic value of the myocardial salvage index measured by T2-weighted and T1-weighted late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: A systematic review and meta-regression analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In all patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, risk stratification should be performed before discharge. The measurement of therapy efficiency with magnetic resonance imaging has been proposed as part of the risk assessment, but it has ...

Temporal Trends and Short‐ and Long‐Term Mortality of People With Acute Myocardial Infarction and Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We investigated whether a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects the quality of inpatient acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care and long‐term mortality post‐AMI. Methods We analyzed data from 784,091 adults, 6,047 with a diagnosis of RA, from England and Wales hospitalized with AMI between 2005 and 2019 from the Myocardial Ischaemia ...

Contemporary NSTEMI management: the role of the hospitalist. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is defined as elevated cardiac biomarkers of necrosis in the absence of persistent ST-segment elevation in the setting of anginal symptoms or other acute event.

Type 2 myocardial infarction: the chimaera of cardiology? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The term type 2 myocardial infarction first appeared as part of the universal definition of myocardial infarction. It was introduced to cover a group of patients who had elevation of cardiac troponin but did not meet the traditional criteria for acute ...

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...

Clinical features of myocardial infarction and myocarditis in young adults: a retrospective study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the prevalence and clinical presentation of myocardial infarction (MI) and myocarditis in young adults presenting with chest pain (CP) and an elevated serum troponin I (TnI) to the emergency department (ED). DESIGN: Retrospective,

Postoperative Stress Accelerates Atherosclerosis Through Inflammatory Remodeling of the HDL Proteome and Impaired Reverse Cholesterol Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study shows that noncardiac surgical inflammation rapidly disrupts HDL function and cholesterol efflux in mice and human patients. Impaired reverse cholesterol transport after surgery drives rapid lipid accumulation, NETosis, and apoptosis within atherosclerotic plaques.
