The antimicrobial susceptibility of non-tuberculous mycobacteria

Journal of Infection, 2016
Pulmonary non-tuberculous mycobacterial infection (NTM) is a challenging and increasingly prevalent infection. Antimicrobial resistance is common and may be associated with poor outcomes. This retrospective study aimed to report longitudinal trends in mycobacterial isolation and NTM drug susceptibility.Mycobacterial culture and drug sensitivity testing

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria in China

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2007
Infection with non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) is relatively rare in areas that are high-endemic for tuberculosis. We identified 126 strains of NTM in respiratory specimens collected by the Chinese Nationwide Survey in 2000, the Beijing Tuberculosis and Thoracic Tumour Institution, and the Guangzhou Thoracic Hospital.

Drug Resistance by Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria

2009
Non-tuberculous Mycobacterium species (NTMs) are considered opportunistic pathogens as they cause disease in animals as well as in susceptible humans. Infections can vary from asymptomatic nodules to chronic, debilitating lung and skin infections.

Lymphadenitis by non‐tuberculous mycobacteria in children

Pediatrics International, 2018
AbstractBackgroundNon‐tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) constitute an important cause of cervical lymphadenitis in immunocompetent children. The aims of this study were to estimate the incidence of lymphadenitis due to NTM in children in Cyprus and to describe the characteristics, diagnostic approach, management and outcome of such infections ...

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria and mycobacteriosis

Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases, 2011
The data available in the literature and the results of trials conducted at the Moscow City Center for Tuberculosis Control suggest that non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTMB) and its induced pathology (mycobacterioses) are a serious health problem today.

The mycobacteriology of non-tuberculous mycobacteria

Paediatric Respiratory Reviews, 2004
The genus Mycobacterium consists of >50 species that have been associated with human disease. Mycobacterium are categorised into M. tuberculosis and NTM that are also subdivided into rapid growers and non-rapid growers. Five major clinical syndromes have been described that are attributable to mycobacterium.

Non-Tuberculous Mycobacteria: Classification, Diagnostics, and Therapy

2016
Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are species other than those belonging to the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and do not cause leprosy. NTM are generally free-living organisms that are ubiquitous in the environment. There have been more than 140 NTM species identified to-date.

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria: five year experience

Respiratory infections, 2020
Introduction: Non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections are increasingly rapidly worldwide. NTM differ in their pathogenicity with propensity to cause disease in patients with impaired immunity. Objective: To characterize the population with NTM isolation in our centre over a 5-year period.
