Disc stackings and their Morse index
We construct free boundary minimal disc stackings, with any number of strata, in the three-dimensional Euclidean unit ball, and prove uniform, linear lower and upper bounds on the Morse index of all such surfaces. Among other things, our work implies for

The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

α- and β-myosin II can be non-uniformly distributed within the cardiac sarcomere
Summary: In humans, the forces of the heartbeat are generated by both “fast” α-myosin II and “slow” β-myosin II molecular motors. Here, we report that α-myosin II and β-myosin II can take on an anisotropic arrangement within cardiac sarcomeres, the ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

A novel fixed-time prescribed performance sliding mode control for uncertain wheeled mobile robots
This paper proposes a novel fixed-time prescribed performance sliding mode control method, specifically designed to address trajectory tracking issues in wheeled mobile robots (WMRs) affected by wheel slipping, skidding (WSS), and external disturbances ...

Asymptotic Capacity Bounds for Wireless Networks with Non-Uniform Traffic
We develop bounds on the capacity of wireless networks when the traffic is non-uniform, i.e., not all nodes are required to receive and send similar volumes of traffic. Our results are asymptotic, i.e., they hold with probability going to unity as the number of nodes goes to infinity.

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability
