An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Multiple Competition Processes Between Stimulated Brillouin and Raman Scattering in a Sulfate Aqueous Solution

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) processes from the aqueous solution of MgSO4 have been observed. The experimental results show that there are three different processes in aqueous solution of sulfate: SBS, SRS ...

Simulation-Based Generation of Representative and Valid Training Data for Acoustic Resonance Testing

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Analyzing eigenfrequencies of serial parts by acoustic resonance testing enables an efficient nondestructive assessment of component quality or structural state. Usually, each application is based on experimentally acquired training data, which represent

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Deterministic Source Inversion for Wave Propagation Problems in Nondestructive Testing

open access: yes, 1986
A source of acoustic or elastic waves is of considerable interest for many nondestructive testing methods. During acoustic emission, waves are generated by transient deformation processes in materials or by externally applied excitations.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.
