Can NT-pro BNP Levels Predict Prognosis of Patients with Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in the Intensive Care Unit?

open access: yesBalkan Medical Journal, 2018
Background: The prognostic value of amino terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide levels in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease has not been fully established.

Intraoperative Cardiac Events During Pediatric Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Under Anesthesia: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) frequently undergo cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) under anesthesia. Although these procedures lack surgical stimulus, patients remain physiologically vulnerable, and the incidence of perioperative cardiovascular instability in this setting is poorly defined.

The Impact of Preintubation Noninvasive Ventilation on Outcomes in Pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

open access: yes, 2021
There is evidence that noninvasive ventilation decreases the need for invasive mechanical ventilation. However, children with pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome who fail noninvasive ventilation may have worse outcomes than those who are ...

Urinary Collagen Peptides Predict Mortality

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Organ fibrosis caused by the presence of excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) is related to mortality. Urinary peptide signatures were reported to be predictive of death in SARS‐CoV‐2 and chronic kidney disease. Such signatures were composed for 68% of collagen fragments.

Noninvasive ventilation in patients with severe community-acquired pneumonia: What have we learned? Key response determinants and practical implications

open access: yes, 2016
Severe community-acquired pneumonia leads to acute respiratory failure, which may require tracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation while proper antibiotic therapy is being established.

Preclinical Efficacy and Safety Evaluation of a Novel Controlled‐Expansion ePTFE‐Covered TIPS Stent in a Swine Model

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
This preclinical study evaluated a novel controlled‐expansion expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)‐covered transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) stent in 11 swine, demonstrating 100% technical success, excellent deployability, and durable 6‐month angiographic patency without thrombosis, migration, fracture, or device‐related toxicity.
