Nonlinear Interactive Buckling: Sensitivity and Optimality∗
Journal of Structural Mechanics, 1977ABSTRACT The nonlinear buckling behavior of discrete systems in which two eigen-modes interact is studied. A variable parameter affecting the design is introduced to allow a change in the closeness of the two eigenvalues. The sensitivity of the critical equilibrium states to combined changes in the design and imperfection parameters is considered ...

Nonlinear buckling of blood vessels: A theoretical study
Journal of Biomechanics, 2008Tortuosity and kinking often occur in arteries and veins but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. It has been suggested recently that long arteries may buckle and become tortuosity due to reduced axial tension or hypertensive pressure, but very few studies have been done to establish the biomechanical basis for artery buckling.

Nonlinear buckled states of rectangular plates
Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1974A constructive method is developed to establish the existence of buckled states of a thin, flat elastic plate that is rectangular in shape, simply supported along its edges, and subjected to a constant compressive thrust applied normal to its two short edges.

Nonlinear buckling and post-buckling analysis of imperfect porous plates under mechanical loads
Journal of Sandwich Structures and Materials, 2018The nonlinear buckling and post-buckling response of imperfect porous plates is investigated analytically in this paper. The porous materials with elastic moduli are assumed to vary through the thickness of the plate according to two different ...

In-Plane Nonlinear Buckling of Funicular Arches
International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, 2015This paper presents a numerical technique to determine the full pre-buckling and post-buckling equilibrium path for elastic funicular arches. The formulation includes the effects of shear deformations and geometric nonlinearity due to large deformations. The Timoshenko beam hypothesis is adopted for incorporating shear.

Nonlinear Dynamic Buckling of a Composite Shell
46th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 2005A computationally effective method is described to evaluate the nonlinear dynamic buckling of thin composite shells. The method is a judicious combination of available computer codes for finite element, composite mechanics and incremental structural analysis. The solution method is an incrementally updated Lagrangian.
