Epilepsy and Nonlinear Dynamics [PDF]
This overview summarizes findings obtained from analyzing electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings from epilepsy patients with methods from the theory of nonlinear dynamical systems. The last two decades have shown that nonlinear time series analysis techniques allow an improved characterization of epileptic brain states and help to gain deeper ...

Nonlinear Drillstring Dynamics Analysis [PDF]
This paper studies the dynamical response of a rotary drilling system with a drag bit, using a lumped parameter model that takes into consideration the axial and torsional vibration modes of the bit. These vibrations are coupled through a bit-rock interaction law.

Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Ascertaining when a basin is Wada: the merging method
Trying to imagine three regions separated by a unique boundary seems a difficult task. However, this is exactly what happens in many dynamical systems showing Wada basins.

Study on the Inherent Complex Features and Chaos Control of IS–LM Fractional-Order Systems
Based on the traditional IS–LM economic theory, which shows the relationship between interest rates and output in the goods and services market and the money market in macroeconomic. We established a four-dimensional IS–LM model involving four variables.

As a kind of metamaterial, the negative Poisson’s ratio foams, which expand (shrink) in the transverse direction when stretched (compressed) in the longitudinal direction, have many potential applications in fields such as aerospace and mechanical and ...

Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

This chapter applies fundamental concepts of dynamics, nonlinearity, and chaotic behavior to notions of creativity, health, and illness. It describes how nonlinear dynamical systems (NDS) models apply to crucial issues and phenomena that are not well described with customary linear models.
