Optimal control of nonlinear systems: a predictive control approach [PDF]

open access: yesAutomatica, 2003
A special case of nonlinear generalised predictive control (GPC) in which the degree of output prediction is constrained in terms of relative degree and control order is presented. The approach gives an analytic solution for a class of multivariable nonlinear systems in terms of a GPC performance index.

Nonlinear optimal control of a mean-field model of neural population dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience, 2022
We apply the framework of nonlinear optimal control to a biophysically realistic neural mass model, which consists of two mutually coupled populations of deterministic excitatory and inhibitory neurons.

Turnpike in Lipschitz—nonlinear optimal control [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinearity, 2022
Abstract We present a new proof of the turnpike property for nonlinear optimal control problems, when the running target is a steady control-state pair of the underlying system. Our strategy combines the construction of quasi-turnpike controls via controllability, and a bootstrap argument, and does not rely on analyzing the optimality ...

Computing energy-optimal trajectories for an autonomous underwater vehicle using direct shooting [PDF]

open access: yesModeling, Identification and Control, 1992
Energy-optimal trajectories for an autonomous underwater vehicle can be computed using a numerical solution of the optimal control problem. The vehicle is modeled with the six dimensional nonlinear and coupled equations of motion, controlled with DC ...

Locally deforming continuation method based on a shooting method for a class of optimal control problems

open access: yesSICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 2021
This paper proposes a new continuation method for solving optimal control problems. The proposed method is based on a shooting method. In the proposed method, a cost function of an optimal control problem is locally deformed to find the solution of the ...

Optimal Path Planning on the Three-Input Six-Dimensional Brockett’s Canonical System

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
This paper addresses an optimal path planning problem on the three-input six-dimensional Brockett’s canonical system. This class of systems can be applied to control the position and orientation of a rigid body in SE, such as spacecraft, aerial ...

Online Model-Free Reinforcement Learning for Output Feedback Tracking Control of a Class of Discrete-Time Systems With Input Saturation

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
In this paper, a new model-free Model-Actor (MA) reinforcement learning controller is developed for output feedback control of a class of discrete-time systems with input saturation constraints. The proposed controller is composed of two neural networks,

Nonlinear Control Synthesis by Convex Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2004
A stability criterion for nonlinear systems, recently derived by the third author, can be viewed as a dual to Lyapunov's second theorem. The criterion is stated in terms of a function which can be interpreted as the stationary density of a substance that is generated all over the state-space and flows along the system trajectories toward the ...

On the Method of Generating a Circular-Clothoid Trajectory for Front-Steering Vehicles Based on L1/L2-Optimal Control

open access: yesSICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 2020
The continuity and the constantness of both the curvature and the velocity in a trajectory are essential for the vehicle trajectory design from the viewpoint of the followability.
