Nonlinear Refractive Index of Sulfur Copolymer Materials

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2017
Nonlinear refractive indices of novel sulfur copolymers are reported for the first time using a Z-scan setup. These values show a high nonlinearity compared to silica, demonstrating their potential for nonlinear optical applications.

Dispersion of the nonlinear refractive index of optical crystals

Optical Materials, 1992
Abstract The nonlinear refractive indices of several important optical materials have been measured at the second and third harmonic wavelengths of the Nd laser using nearly degenerate four-wave mixing. Measurements made relative to the nonlinear index of fused silica have the highest accuracy.

Nonlinear refractive index of IV–IV compound semiconductors

Applied Optics, 1992
An Eg−4 scaling law is used to estimate the intensity-dependent refractive index n2 of the new binary zinc blende semiconductors GeC, β-SiC, SiGe, SnC, SiSn, and GeSn from known n2 values for Si and Ge.

Modeling the nonlinear refractive index in atomic gases

2013 Conference on Lasers & Electro-Optics Europe & International Quantum Electronics Conference CLEO EUROPE/IQEC, 2013
Accurate modeling of optical nonlinearities is crucial to describe macroscopic laser propagation in a medium, including sum frequency generation, spectral broadening due to self-phase modulation, various ionization processes and soliton formation.

Resonances of the nonlinear refractive index of optical fibers

OFC '98. Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibit. Technical Digest. Conference Edition. 1998 OSA Technical Digest Series Vol.2 (IEEE Cat. No.98CH36177), 2002
Summary form only given. In this paper we report the frequency behavior of the nonlinear refractive index of optical fibers for telecommunications, accurately measured through a polarization-insensitive cross-phase modulation technique. The experimental setup is shown.

Soluble saturable refractive-index nonlinearity model

Optics Communications, 1988
Abstract TE modes of an optically linear planar waveguide on a thick nonlinear substrate are described for a model substrate refractive index or dielectric permittivity of the form ϵ= ϵ s + ϵ sat u(2+u) (1+u) 2 , where u= α|E| 2 2ϵ sat , which displays saturation at high guided-wave powers, yet for which ...

Microwave measurement of the nonlinear refractive index of PZT

IEE Proceedings - Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation, 1996
A new measurement system is presented and used for the determination of the nonlinear refractive index of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) at microwave frequencies. Cross-phase modulation has been used and nonlinear coefficients that are negative have been found.

Nonlinear refractive index measurements of glasses and crystals

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1987
We have measured the nonlinear index for numerous glasses and crystals with the goal of determining the material properties that contribute to the magnitude and dispersion of n2. We have found that a nearly‐degenerate three‐wave‐mixing (TWM) process, similar to that first used by Maker and Terhune, is the most useful method since it can provide both ...
