Nonlinear rolling response in a regular sea
International Shipbuilding Progress, 1984The rolling motion of a ship has been described by a nonlinear differential equation explicitly taking into account the nonlinearities in both the righting moment and the damping. A perturbative analysis in the main resonance frequency region, relative to a regular beam sea, allows an estimate of the maximum amplitude predictable as a function of the ...

A nonlinear regularization strategy for GRAPPA calibration
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2009A regularization strategy is described for generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisition (GRAPPA) that allows successful calibration using a small number of autocalibration signals (ACS). The approach requires certain nonlinear relationships between the GRAPPA coefficients to be satisfied, which increases the redundancy so that fewer ACS ...

A nonlinear regularization approach to early vision
Biological Cybernetics, 1994We propose a new class of approaches to smooth visual data while preserving significant transitions of these data as clues for segmentation. Formally, the given visual data are represented as a noisy (image) function g, and we present a class of continuously formulated global minimization problems to smooth g.

An analysis of regularity conditions in nonlinear synthesis
1990Many results are now available for output nulling, system inversion and dynamic input-output decoupling, each with its own set of regularity conditions. In this paper, we present a framework, based upon the canonical map from initial conditions and inputs to outputs, in which these regularity conditions can be reformulated and compared. As a byproduct,

Regularization for a Class of Nonlinear Evolution Equations
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1986The author considers a class of nonlinear parabolic equations of degenerate type, which includes the Stefan problem in enthalpy form. The degenerate function (the temperature in the classical Stefan case) is regularized and then some estimates of the error of this regularization are proved and discussed.

On the Choice of the Regularization Parameter in Nonlinear Inverse Problems
SIAM Journal on Optimization, 1992The authors consider the estimation of the diffusion coefficient \(a\) in \(-\text{div}(a \text{grad} u)+cu=f\) in \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^ n\) where \(u\), \(c\) and \(f\) are known, and a feasible boundary condition is satisfied by \(u\) on the boundary \(\partial\Omega\). The problem can be formulated as inverting the parameter-to-solution mapping
