Nonlinear static isogeometric analysis of cable structures

Archive of Applied Mechanics, 2018
The purpose of this paper is to develop and evaluate the efficiency of the cable element based on the Lagrangian formulation using the Isogeometric analysis (IGA) approach. Two Lagrangian formulations (Total Lagrangian and Updated Lagrangian) have been adopted in the static analysis of nonlinear behaviour of the cable structures.

Nonlinear Static and Dynamic Analysis of Plates

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1985
An efficient element for static and dynamic analysis of plates including geometric effects is presented. A formulation of the “heterosis element” presented by Hughes and Cohen for linear static analysis of Mindlin plates is given. This formulation is then extended to include large displacement effects using Von‐Karman assumptions and updated Lagrangian

Dynamic and Nonlinear Static Analysis

2018
Chapter four focused on demonstration the basics of structural dynamic and explain the fundamental process to determine structural seismic response. In order to have a clear comprehending of the highlighted concepts within this book, it is tried to present the application of theories and calculation processes in a real buildings in all sections ...

Nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of cable structures

Finite Elements in Analysis and Design, 2011
This paper presents a catenary cable element for the nonlinear analysis of cable structures subjected to static and dynamic loadings. The element stiffness matrix and element nodal forces, which account for self-weight and pretension effects, are derived based on exact analytical expressions of elastic catenary.

Nonlinear static analysis of smart laminated composite plate

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2011
Abstract In this paper, a third order shear deformation theory is used to study the behavior of laminated smart composite plate with magnetostrictive layers, while accounting for geometric nonlinearity in the von-Karman sense. A coupled analysis of magnetostrictive material is presented where Terfenol-D is used as a magnetostrictive material to ...

Simulating electrostrictive deformable mirrors: I. Nonlinear static analysis

Smart Materials and Structures, 1999
An electromechanical model of a deformable mirror was developed as a design tool for adaptive optical systems. The model consisted of a continuous, mirrored face sheet driven with multilayered, electrostrictive actuators. A fully coupled constitutive law simulated the nonlinear, electromechanical behavior of the actuators, while finite element ...

Nonlinear static analysis-based thrust for solar sail

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2014
An accurate thrust model is extremely important for the navigation and space mission of solar sails. The thrust is deeply affected by the deformation of the highly flexible structure. Thus, in this paper, the exact thrust models for two-point and infinite-point-connected sails are presented by calculating the static deformations for the sail support ...

Semi-analytical static nonlinear structural sensitivity analysis

AIAA Journal, 1993
The paper discusses two uses of the semi-analytical method for nonlinear sensitivity analysis. First, the application to noncritical response is analyzed. It is shown that the semi-analytical method is equivalent to a particular form of the overall finite difference approach.

Nonlinear static analysis of Multistoried Building in Yemen

Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, 2018
A large number of multi-story reinforced concrete (R/C) framed building structures in urban Yemen were constructed with masonry infills for economic, aesthetic or architectural reasons. We have investigated the effect of the layout of masonry infill panels over the elevation of masonry infilled R/C frames on the seismic performance and potential ...

Nonlinear analysis of gabled frames under static loads

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1989
Abstract The nonlinear analysis of plane, non-orthogonal frames with flexible joint connections and with elastic rotational restraints at the supports, under static and dynamic loads is presented. The nonlinearity is a kinematic one, while the material behavior is assumed to be linearly elastic.
