Seismic fragility analysis of a buried gas pipeline based on nonlinear time-history analysis

International Journal of Steel Structures, 2016
Seismic fragility analysis was performed for API X65, a type of buried gas pipeline that is widely used in Korea. For this purpose, nonlinear time-history analyses were carried out using 15 different analytical models of the pipeline, which represent variations of modeling parameters.

Nonlinear inelastic time-history analysis of three-dimensional semi-rigid steel frames

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2014
Abstract This paper presents a simple, effective numerical procedure based on the beam–column method by using the based-displacement finite element method for nonlinear inelastic time-history analysis of three-dimensional semi-rigid steel frames. The nonlinear geometry effects are considered by using stability functions and the geometric stiffness ...

Nonlinear time history analysis of China Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai China

The Structural Design of Tall and Special Buildings, 2013
SUMMARYThe peculiar building style and special structural system of the National Hall of China Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai is a long‐span and large cantilevered steel–concrete hybrid structure with a shape of an inverted trapezoid in elevation and local discontinuity of floor slabs in plan for esthetic and functional considerations.

Nonlinear Time History Analysis and Optimal Isolator Design for Earthquake Resistant Structures

11th AIAA/ISSMO Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization Conference, 2006
Seismic isolation and energy dissipation systems are innovative strategies for seismic design, and upgrade or retrofit of bridges. In a retrofit design, base isolation devices can be easily incorporated into existing bridges to replace conventional bearings and to improve the overall structural performance. In this paper, an optimal cost base isolation

Optimum load time history for non‐linear analysis using dynamic relaxation

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1986
AbstractA modification of the dynamic relaxation method is proposed which facilitates static analysis of non‐linear problems. Continuous loading in time is adopted instead of the ordinary step function of time. Inertia and damping forces arising during the loading process are kept at a minimum using an optimum load time history.

Post-earthquake Emergency Response and Recovery Through City-Scale Nonlinear Time-History Analysis

2021
The city-scale nonlinear THA can also be used to evaluate the extent of the emergency response and recovery after an earthquake. This chapter firstly proposes a real-time earthquake damage assessment using recorded ground motions and city-scale nonlinear THA, which can significantly reduce the uncertainties of the ground motion inputs.

Design of Buckling-Restrained Braced Frames Using Nonlinear Time History Analysis and Optimization

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2009
A procedure for the design of buckling-restrained braced frames is presented. The procedure uses nonlinear time history analysis and optimization. Results from this procedure are compared to those from the commonly used equivalent lateral force procedure.

Distributed plasticity approach for time-history analysis of steel frames including nonlinear connections

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2014
Abstract This paper presents a displacement-based finite element procedure for second-order spread-of-plasticity analysis of plane steel frames with nonlinear beam-to-column connections under dynamic and seismic loadings. A partially strain-hardening elastic–plastic beam-column element, which directly takes into account geometric nonlinearity ...

Selection of ground motion time histories for nonlinear analysis of earth dams

2015
The selection of natural accelerograms for use in nonlinear analyses of earth dams is still a challenging issue. Customary approaches make essentially use of factors such as earthquake magnitude, distance and site class to obtain spectrum-compatible records with a target spectrum.
