Generalized Green’s functions for second-order discrete boundary-value problems with nonlocal boundary conditions

open access: yesLietuvos Matematikos Rinkinys, 2012
In this paper, generalized Green’s functions for second-order discrete boundaryvalue problems with nonlocal boundary conditions are investigated, where the necessary and sufficient existence condition of discrete Green’s function is not satisfied and ...

Free boundary problem for a nonlocal time-periodic diffusive competition model

open access: yesMathematical Biosciences and Engineering, 2023
In this paper we consider a free boundary problem for a nonlocal time-periodic competition model. One species is assumed to adopt nonlocal dispersal, and the other one adopts mixed dispersal, which is a combination of both random dispersal and nonlocal ...

A sharp interface model for the propagation of martensitic phase boundaries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A model for the quasistatic evolution of martensitic phase boundaries is presented. The model is essentially the gradient flow of an energy that can contains elastic energy due to the underlying change in crystal structure in the course of the phase ...

Quantum effective force in an expanding infinite square-well potential and Bohmian perspective

open access: yes, 2012
The Schr\"{o}dinger equation is solved for the case of a particle confined to a small region of a box with infinite walls. If walls of the well are moved, then, due to an effective quantum nonlocal interaction with the boundary, even though the particle ...

Mathematical and numerical analysis of a model for anti-angiogenic therapy in metastatic cancers

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce and analyze a phenomenological model for anti-angiogenic therapy in the treatment of metastatic cancers. It is a structured transport equation with a nonlocal boundary condition describing the evolution of the density of metastasis that we ...

Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

Second order systems with nonlinear nonlocal boundary conditions

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2018
This paper is concerned with the second order differential equation with not necessarily linear nonlocal boundary condition. The existence of solutions is obtained using the properties of the Leray–Schauder degree. The results generalize and improve some

Asymptotic distribution of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of a nonlocal boundary value problem

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2021
In this work, we obtain asymptotic formulas for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the second order boundary-value problem with a Bitsadze–Samarskii type nonlocal boundary condition.

The Oseen-Frank limit of Onsager's molecular theory for liquid crystals

open access: yes, 2016
We study the relationship between Onsager's molecular theory and the Oseen-Frank theory for nematic liquid crystals. Under the molecular setting, we consider the free energy that includes the effects of nonlocal molecular interactions.

Dynamic Optical Lattices Through Conducting Polymer‐Gated Confinement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The conducting polymer gate is incorporated into organic dielectric lattices to control the dynamic switching of nonlocal Mie resonances in the visible/NIR regions. The “closed gate” from oxidized PEDOT confines the light within dielectric nanocylinders and activates nonlocal Mie resonances, while the “opened gate” from reduced PEDOT facilitates ...
