Local and nonlocal dispersive turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2009
We consider the evolution of a family of two-dimensional (2D) dispersive turbulence models. The members of this family involve the nonlinear advection of a dynamically active scalar field, and as per convention, the locality of the streamfunction-scalar relation is denoted by α, with smaller α implying increased locality (α=1 gives traditional 2D ...

Extreme Spatial Dispersion in Nonlocally Resonant Elastic Metamaterials

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2023
To date, the vast majority of architected materials have leveraged two physical principles to control wave behavior, namely Bragg interference and local resonances. Here, we describe a third path: structures that accommodate a finite number of delocalized zero-energy modes, leading to anomalous dispersion cones that nucleate from extreme spatial ...

Spatial propagation in nonlocal dispersal Fisher-KPP equations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Functional Analysis, 2021
In this paper we focus on three problems about the spreading speeds of nonlocal dispersal Fisher-KPP equations. First, we study the signs of spreading speeds and find that they are determined by the asymmetry level of the nonlocal dispersal and $f'(0)$, where $f$ is the reaction function.

Nonlocality test of energy-time entanglement via nonlocal dispersion cancellation with nonlocal detection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2019
Energy-time entangled biphoton source plays a great role in quantum communication, quantum metrology and quantum cryptography due to its strong temporal correlation and capability of nonlocal dispersion cancellation. As a quantum effect, nonlocal dispersion cancellation is further proposed as an alternative way for nonlocality test of continuous ...

Variation in responses to temperature in admixed Populus genotypes predicts geographic shifts in regions where hybrids are favored. [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytol
Summary Plastic responses of plants to their environment vary as a result of genetic differentiation within and among species. To accurately predict rangewide responses to climate change, it is necessary to characterize genotype‐specific reaction norms across the continuum of historic and future climate conditions comprising a species' range. The North

Traveling Waves in a Nonlocal Dispersal SIR Model with Standard Incidence Rate and Nonlocal Delayed Transmission

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
In this paper, we study the traveling wave solutions for a nonlocal dispersal SIR epidemic model with standard incidence rate and nonlocal delayed transmission.

Propagation and reaction–diffusion models with free boundaries

open access: yesBulletin of Mathematical Sciences, 2022
In this short survey, we describe some recent developments on the modeling of propagation by reaction-differential equations with free boundaries, which involve local as well as nonlocal diffusion.

Nematic Dispersive Shock Waves from Nonlocal to Local [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
The structure of optical dispersive shock waves in nematic liquid crystals is investigated as the power of the optical beam is varied, with six regimes identified, which complements previous work pertinent to low power beams only. It is found that the dispersive shock wave structure depends critically on the input beam power.
