Conditioning an additive functional of a markov chain to stay non-negative. I, Survival for a long time [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Let (X-t)(t >= 0) be a continuous-time irreducible Markov chain on a finite state space E, let v be a map v: E -> R \ {0}, and let (phi(t))(t >= 0) be an additive functional defined by phi(t) = integral(0)(t)(X-s) ds.

A new smooth failure criterion for concrete inspired by Lubliner's condition

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract A new failure criterion with 10 parameters is proposed, based on Lubliner's idea of joining two Drucker–Prager cones. The novelty lies in the way of introducing deviatoric shape variation: through two Podgórski's functions. This feature allows for improving plane stress cross‐section's compatibility with experimental data.

SMILE: Extraction‐free submicron‐resolution mapping of lipid chain length and unsaturation by stimulated Raman imaging

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
In this work, we develop submicron‐resolution mapping of intracellular lipid elements (SMILE) as an extraction‐free vibrational spectroscopic imaging platform based on hyperspectral stimulated Raman scattering microscopy with a spectral analysis pipeline for pixel‐resolved lipid profiling.

A Note on the Drazin Indices of Square Matrices

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
For a square matrix A, the smallest nonnegative integer k such that rank (Ak) = rank (Ak+1) is called the Drazin index of A. In this paper, we give some results on the Drazin indices of sum and product of square matrices.

Reactor Criticality and Nonnegative Matrices

open access: yesJournal of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, 1958
The Perron-Frobenius theory of nonnegative matrices is applied to provide a mathematical basis for the physical concept of criticality and for typical computational interpretations of this concept. (W. L. H.)

Micro‐Mechanism Informed Neural Networks for Process‐Property Prediction in Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesArtificial Intelligence for Engineering, EarlyView.
Hard physics embedding, where neural networks learn residuals relative to analytical baselines, substantially outperforms soft loss‐function constraints for extrapolation in LPBF process–property prediction. Physics integration architecture determines generalization capability more than constraint quantity.

Transient dynamics and nonlinear fitness: A matrix approach to pulse and press perturbation. [PDF]

open access: yesEcology
Abstract Disturbances can occur as short‐lived pulses (e.g., storms) or sustained presses (e.g., chronic drought). Much work in ecology has developed methods to help predict how natural populations respond to disturbances, but analyses of pulse and press disturbances have been largely disconnected.

Boosted unsupervised feature selection for tumor gene expression profiles

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract In an unsupervised scenario, it is challenging but essential to eliminate noise and redundant features for tumour gene expression profiles. However, the current unsupervised feature selection methods treat all samples equally, which tend to learn discriminative features from simple samples.

Totally nonnegative moment matrices

open access: yes, 1994
The finite dimensional moment matrices of distributions which are either concentrated on the nonnegative half line or symmetric around zero are similar to totally nonnegative matrices.
