Robust Estimation and Inference for Semiparametric and Nonparametric Regression Models

open access: yesMathematics
Parametric regression methods are efficient when correctly specified but are sensitive to model misspecification and outliers. Nonparametric regression offers greater flexibility at the cost of reduced interpretability and susceptibility to the curse of ...

Treatment recommendation and parameter estimation under single-index contrast function

open access: yesStatistical Theory and Related Fields, 2017
In this article, we consider a semiparametric model for contrast function which is defined as the conditional expected outcome difference under comparative treatments.

Nonparametric Identification of Multinomial Choice Demand Models with Heterogeneous Consumers [PDF]

open access: yes
We consider identification of nonparametric random utility models of multinomial choice using "micro data," i.e., observation of the characteristics and choices of individual consumers.

On robust nonparametric regression estimation for a functional regressor

open access: yesStatistics & Probability Letters, 2008
We study a family of robust nonparametric estimators for a regression function based on a kernel method when theregressors are functional random variables. We establish the almost complete convergence rate of these estimatorsunder the probability measure’s concentration property on small balls of of the functional variable. Simulations aregiven to show

Robust nonparametric regression: Review and practical considerations

open access: yesEconometrics and Statistics, 2023
Nonparametric regression models offer a way to understand and quantify relationships between variables without having to identify an appropriate family of possible regression functions. Although many estimation methods for these models have been proposed in the literature, most of them can be highly sensitive to the presence of a small proportion of ...

A Rational Optimization Approach for the Development of a Multiplexed Lateral Flow Immunoassay: Detection of Nonepithelial Ovarian Cancer Markers in Human Serum

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study outlines the developmental pipeline of a multiplexed nanozyme‐based lateral flow immunoassay for the purpose of ovarian germ cell tumor detection. It demonstrates the application of a design of experiments optimization approach for nanozyme probe conjugate development.

Parametric vs. Nonparametric Estimation of an Equilibrium Search Model with Employer Heterogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes
We demonstrate that non-monotone behaviour of the right tail of earnings density may lead to the fact that nonparametric estimation of the Bontemps et al. (2000) equilibrium search model with employer heterogeneity does not yield consistent estimates. We

Multi‐Omics Insights Into the Mechanisms of Early Muscle Fiber Difference and Transformation Between Lean‐Type and Chinese Indigenous Pigs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics analyses uncover breed‐specific cis‐regulatory landscapes and higher‐order chromatin architectural differences that underlie early postnatal muscle fiber divergence in pigs. A super‐enhancer upstream of PPP3CB recruits MEF2C to activate PPP3CB transcription, while the PPP3CB–MEF2C positive feedback loop promotes oxidative muscle fiber ...

Gender wage discrimination in Mexico: A distributional approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper examines the observed wage differentials by gender in Mexico over the last two decades (1984 to 2002). To estimate and understand the wage gap the paper uses a nonparametric-distributional approach, and compares the results with the other ...

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.
