Refining the NaV1.7 pharmacophore of a class of venom‐derived peptide inhibitors via a combination of in silico screening and rational engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

Drivers of Technical Efficiency in Cassava Processing in Nigeria: Implications for a Commercializing Food Sector

open access: yesTropicultura, 2019
Most agriculture policies in Nigeria are aimed at integrating the rural poor into market economy. In the last decade, Nigeria witnessed significant private and public injection of capital into the promotion of small-medium scale cassava processing.

Characterization of the multivariate normal distribution by conditional normal distributions

open access: yesMetrika, 1991
LetX andY be two random vectors with values in ℝ k and ℝ∝, respectively. IfZ=(X T,Y T) T is multivariate normal thenX givenY=y andY givenX=x are (multivariate) normal; the converse is wrong.

The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

Evaluating the Reliability of Counting Bacteria Using Epifluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2017
The common practice of counting bacteria using epifluorescence microscopy involves selecting 5–30 random fields of view on a glass slide to calculate the arithmetic mean which is then used to estimate the total bacterial abundance.

The Key Indicators of the Normality of Distribution

open access: yesInovacije u Nastavi, 2020
Statistics plays an important role in describing the results of various research. The basic role of statistical reasoning is to enable generalizations valid for the entire population to be made on the basis of certain quantitative characteristics of the ...

Study of long-term flux and photon Index distributions of blazars using RXTE observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present a detailed study of flux and index distributions of three blazars (one FSRQ and two BL Lacs) by using 16 years of Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer archival data. The three blazars were chosen such that their flux and index distributions have sufficient number of data points ($\geq$90) with relatively less uncertainty ($\bar{\sigma_{err}^{2 ...

Gumbel convergence of the maximum of convoluted half-normally distributed random variables [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this note, we establish the convergence in distribution of the maxima of i.i.d. random variables to the Gumbel distribution with the associated normalizing sequences for several examples that are related to the normal distribution. Motivated by tests for jumps in high-frequency data, our main interest is in the half-normal distribution and the sum ...

Dobinski-type relations and the Log-normal distribution

open access: yes, 2003
We consider sequences of generalized Bell numbers B(n), n=0,1,... for which there exist Dobinski-type summation formulas; that is, where B(n) is represented as an infinite sum over k of terms P(k)^n/D(k). These include the standard Bell numbers and their

miRNA‐29 regulates epidermal and mesenchymal functions in skin repair

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
miRNA‐29 inhibits cell‐to‐cell and cell‐to‐matrix adhesion by silencing mRNA targets. Adhesion is controlled by complex interactions between many types of molecules coded by mRNAs. This is crucial for keeping together the layers of the skin and for regenerating the skin after wounding.
