Comment on Hogan and Foster: The future is here

open access: yesInternational Journal of Personality Psychology, 2017
This response to Hogan and Foster’s (2016) rethinking of personality refutes their claim that both neuroticism and personality psychology are meaningless.

’Successful Ageing’ in Practice: Reflections on Health, Activity and Normality in Old Age in Sweden

open access: yesCulture Unbound: Journal of Current Cultural Research, 2012
This article aims to contribute to the critical examination of the notions of health and activity, and to discuss how these cultural and social constructs have impact on elderly people’s lives. An ethnographic perspective gives fruitful inputs to explore

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Testing normality of chosen R-estimates used in deformation analysis

open access: yesJournal of Geodetic Science, 2020
The normal distribution is one of the most important distribution in statistics. In the context of geodetic observation analyses, such importance follows Hagen’s hypothesis of elementary errors; however, some papers point to some leptokurtic tendencies ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

On the Distribution of a Quadratic Form in Normal Variates

open access: yesRevstat Statistical Journal, 2018
It is a well-known theorem in linear models that the idempotency of a matrix is a sufficient and necessary condition for a quadratic form in normal variates to have a chisquare distribution, but its proofs in the early literature were incorrect or ...

Skewness and kurtosis as locally best invariant tests of normality

open access: yes, 2006
Consider testing normality against a one-parameter family of univariate distributions containing the normal distribution as the boundary, e.g., the family of $t$-distributions or an infinitely divisible family with finite variance.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Espaçamento entre plantas de sorgo granífero: produtividade de grãos e qualificação do modelo estatístico Spacing between plants of grains sorghum: grain yield and qualification of the statistical model

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2009
O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a regularidade do espaçamento entre plantas de sorgo granífero em relação à produtividade de grãos para a qualificação da análise estatística.

Normal Saline [PDF]

open access: yesAMA Journal of Ethics, 2019
In 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico and prompted a shortage of normal saline in US health care organizations. This graphic narrative considers ethics and justice in the supply, demand, and allocation of intravenous fluids in clinical settings during this time.
