Do Shallow Slip Deficits Reflect Fault Structural Maturity or Modeling Choices? A Comparative Analysis of Tibetan Strike‐Slip Earthquakes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract InSAR‐constrained finite fault slip models are often used to characterize fault geometries and slip distributions of large continental earthquakes. A common feature of these models is a decrease in slip near the surface, commonly expressed as a percentage shallow slip deficit (SSD).

Van Allen Probes Observations of a Fundamental Poloidal Wave in the Plasmasphere

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 11, November 2026.
Abstract All past spacecraft observations of fundamental poloidal Alfvén (P1) waves attributed to ion drift resonance have been made outside the plasmasphere. In this study, we present the first spacecraft observations of a plasmaspheric P1 wave driven by that resonance.

Acoustic‐Seismic Coupling Signals From Aircraft Reveal Firn‐Ice Transition and Near‐Surface Elastic Structure of Antarctic Ice

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Predicting the response of Antarctic ice to climate change requires detailed knowledge of its shallow structure, but direct measurements are challenging. Traditional seismic surveys are logistically demanding, and surface remote sensing provides limited information about subsurface layers.

Correcting Unwrapping Errors Toward Reliable Rock Glacier Velocity From InSAR Time Series

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Rock Glacier Velocity is an Essential Climate Variable Permafrost Quantity, providing a quantifiable indicator of mountain permafrost evolution. Despite its wide usage, multi‐temporal InSAR often substantially underestimates rock glacier velocities compared to ground‐based measurements, limiting its reliability.

Surface‐Constrained Reconstruction of Spatiotemporal Turbulence Dissipation in the Convective Boundary Layer Using Physics‐Guided Machine Learning

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Turbulence dissipation rate (EDR) governs the conversion of turbulent kinetic energy to heat and thereby controls vertical mixing, transport, and energy exchange in the convective boundary layer (CBL). The spatiotemporal structure of EDR remains poorly constrained, as observations are limited to point measurements or sparse vertical profiles ...

All‐Optical Dual‐Angle Diffractive Neural Networks for 2D Direction‐of‐Arrival Estimation

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 20, 27 October 2026.
A diffractive neural network with an integrated spatial encoder resolves the direction of an incoming terahertz signal entirely through optical propagation. After the signal passes through the cross‐shaped input and two 3D‐printed diffractive layers, two detector arrays read its two incident angles simultaneously.
