Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Tail dependence between order statistics

open access: yes, 2012
In this work, we introduce the s, k-extremal coefficients for studying the tail dependence between the s-th lower and k-th upper order statistics of a normalized random vector. If its margins have tail dependence then so do their order statistics, with

Logit Normalization for Long-Tail Object Detection

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computer Vision
Real-world data exhibiting skewed distributions pose a serious challenge to existing object detectors. Moreover, the samplers in detectors lead to shifted training label distributions, while the tremendous proportion of background to foreground samples severely harms foreground classification.

Cauchy, normal and correlations versus heavy tails

open access: yesStatistics & Probability Letters, 2022
A surprising result of Pillai and Meng (2016) showed that a transformation $\sum_{j=1}^n w_j X_j/Y_j$ of two iid centered normal random vectors, $(X_1,\ldots, X_n)$ and $(Y_1,\ldots, Y_n)$, $n>1$, for any weights $0\leq w_j\leq 1$, $ j=1,\ldots, n$, $\sum_{j=1}^n w_j=1$, has a Cauchy distribution regardless of any correlations within the normal ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Non-uniform bounds and edgeworth expansions in self-normalized limit theorems

open access: yes, 2022
This thesis is devoted to the study of Edgeworth expansions in limit theorems for self-normalized sums. We establish non-uniform bounds for expansions in the central limit theorem while only imposing minimal moment conditions.

The First Prosthetic Alligator Tail and the Role of the Tail in Normal Terrestrial Locomotion

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2015
An American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis) after losing all but the most proximal tail exhibits abnormal walking.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Upper Tail Large Deviations in First Passage Percolation

open access: yes, 2021
For first passage percolation on ℤ2 with i.i.d. bounded edge weights, we consider the upper tail large deviation event, i.e., the rare situation where the first passage time between two points at distance n is macroscopically larger than typical ...
