Review of Eastern Adriatic Hydromedusae: Unravelling Two Centuries of Records

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The Eastern Adriatic Sea is biogeographically complex, yet knowledge of its hydromedusae is fragmented across two centuries of uneven sampling and shifting taxonomy.

Sedimentary Record of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Gulf of Trieste (Northern Adriatic Sea) - Distribution, Origin and Temporal Trends

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2022
A mid-term study (2003-2013) of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in Gulf of Trieste sediments was conducted at seven sampling sites. The PAH spatial and temporal distribution and origin were determined.

Linking species distribution models with population abundance to support adaptive fisheries management

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Understanding how environmental variability structures essential fish habitat (EFH) is central to managing keystone populations in dynamic marine ecosystems. Using nearly three decades of standardized survey data (1994–2021) from the Adriatic Sea, we present the first basin‐scale, process‐based framework linking estimated habitat suitability and ...

Neogene-Quaternary magmatic activity and its geodynamic implications in the Central Mediterranean region

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1997
The petrogenesis and time/space distribution of the magmatism associated with the formation of the Northern and Southern Tyrrhenian basins, together with the directions and ages of lithospheric extension and/or spreading north and south of the 410N ...

Updates on Ecology and Life Cycle of Sulcascaris sulcata (Nematoda: Anisakidae) in Mediterranean Grounds: Molecular Identification of Larvae Infecting Edible Scallops

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2020
Sulcascaris sulcata is a nematode parasite of sea turtles, widespread in neritic foraging grounds with variable prevalence, reaching 30% in loggerhead turtles Caretta caretta feeding in northern Adriatic Sea.

Present climate trends and variability in thermohaline properties of the northern Adriatic shelf [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science, 2019
The paper documents seasonality, interannual-to-decadal variability, and trends in temperature, salinity, and density over a transect in the shallow northern Adriatic Sea (Mediterranean Sea) between 1979 and 2017.

Climatology and Trends of Sub‐Daily Precipitation Extremes in Croatia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Sub‐daily extreme precipitation indices reveal pronounced spatial variability, with the highest intensities and frequencies across the Adriatic region and the highlands. Seasonal and diurnal patterns highlight distinct regional behaviour, including summer maxima over the continental interior and nocturnal or early‐morning peaks along the Adriatic coast.

Historical and recent sea level rise and land subsidence in Marina di Ravenna, northern Italy

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2016
The regions facing the northern Adriatic Sea are particularly vulnerable to sea-level rise. Several trade ports are located there, and the area is important from social and economical viewpoints.

A new successful breeding site of Collared Pratincole Glareola pratincola along the northern Adriatic coastline

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Ornitologia - Research in Ornithology, 2023
The Collared Pratincole Glareola pratincola has a large and fragmented breeding distribution in the Palearctic. In Italy it is an uncommon migrant breeder and the breeding sites are very patchily distributed and irregularly used, with most frequent ...

Decoupling glacier retreat and surface stabilization on the Snežnik Plateau (Slovenia), insights from in situ cosmogenic 36Cl exposure and depth‐profile ages

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glaciokarst landscapes pose distinctive challenges for cosmogenic dating because meltwater and runoff can be rapidly rerouted into ponors and conduit networks, weakening glacier–river coupling and promoting local sediment storage. We reconstruct glacier retreat and postglacial stabilization on the Snežnik Plateau (SW Slovenia) using in situ ...
