Investigating the changing dynamics of processing, temperature‐based mechanics, and flame retardancy in the transfer of ammonium polyphosphate/inorganic silicate flame retardants from epoxy resins to glass fiber composites

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 141, Issue 39, October 15, 2024.
This study examines the dynamics of varying the combined content of ammonium polyphosphate and inorganic silicate in epoxy resins on processibility and fire performance upon transfer to glass fiber reinforced composites. A 30% loading of the flame retardants was crucial for the recovery of the UL‐94 V‐0 rating and charring action absent in a 10 ...

Carbon‐based Flame Retardants for Polymers: A Bottom‐up Review

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 36, Issue 42, October 17, 2024.
Is it really understood how flame retardants work at the molecular level? The use of cutting‐edge simulations via molecular dynamics sets a precedence for an alternative bottom‐up approach to better comprehend the thermal resisting process of carbon‐based flame retardants, such as the char formation and radical capturing offered by the unique carbon ...

Reactivity, processability, and thermal stability of tetrafunctional glycidyl ether cyclic siloxane epoxy hybrid networks

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, Volume 141, Issue 33, September 5, 2024.
Cyclic siloxane epoxy resins cured with aromatic amines are highly processable yet durable at elevated temperature. Abstract A low viscosity tetra‐functional cyclosiloxane epoxy resins (TGTS) is synthesized via a one‐step hydrosilylation reaction and cured separately with four different aromatic diamines to explore the reaction kinetics, network ...

SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERISATION OF BISPHENOL A NOVOLAC EPOXY RESINS FOR COATING APPLICATIONS [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Azhar Bulletin of Science, 2008
Bisphenol A novolacs were synthesized in a melting process using para formaldehyde, and in a solution process using formalin solution and oxalic acid catalyst. 1H-NMR investigations show a higher content of methylene bridges in the novolacs synthesized by the melting process. These novolacs were analyzed by GPC and FT-IR spectroscopy.

Biobased Vitrimeric Epoxy Networks

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 309, Issue 9, September 2024.
Here, all the scientific strategies reported in the literature for developing biobased epoxy vitrimers are summarized. The strategy for achieving sustainable and recyclable epoxy thermosets is exploiting monomers from biorenewable resources by introducing dynamic covalent bonds in the cross‐linked networks.

Performance of novolac resin‐ and resole resin‐based carbon/carbon composites in relation to their fabrication conditions

open access: yesPolymer International, Volume 73, Issue 8, Page 658-672, August 2024.
Manufacturing of polymeric composites based on novolac or resole resin with a low volume fraction of carbon fibres to satisfy the requirements of particular applications. Optimising the curing/post‐curing conditions of the polymeric composites for their conversion into C/C composites by repeating cycles of ‘impregnation–curing/pyrolysis’ to improve ...

Synthesis and Characterization of 1, 3-Bis(Maleimido) Benzene-Modified and 1, 6-Bis(Maleimido) Hexane-Modified Epoxy-Novolac Interpenetrating Networks

open access: yes, 2002
Epoxy-novolac (EPN) resin was modified by blending with in-house-synthesized I, 3-bis(maleimido) benzene and 1, 6-bis(maleimido) hexane. These blends were cured with 4, 4'-methylenedianiline.
