Experimental results for a two-dimensional supersonic inlet used as a thrust deflecting nozzle [PDF]

open access: yes
Nearly all supersonic V/STOL aircraft concepts are dependent on the thrust deflecting capability of a nozzle. In one unique concept, referred to as the reverse flow dual fan, not only is there a thrust deflecting nozzle for the fan and core engine exit ...

Hybrid Microdiscs for Magnetically Induced Non‐Cytotoxic Thermal Actuation and Programmable Biomolecule Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetic microdiscs with customizable size and composition are engineered through refined photolithography and LbL assembly. Embedded Fe3O4 nanoparticles enable localized, non‐cytotoxic heating, while protein cargos can be incorporated in tunable quantities.

Impact of Lens Angle and Nozzle Geometry on Aerodynamic Focusing: A Numerical Study

open access: yesAtmosphere
Straight-edge thin plate orifices (90° half-angle) are used as the focusing elements in most aerodynamic lenses. They are simple to fabricate and have fewer boundary-layer effects as compared to other geometries, such as capillaries and converging and ...

Noise suppression due to annulus shaping of conventional coaxial nozzle [PDF]

open access: yes
A method which shows that increasing the annulus width of a conventional coaxial nozzle with constant bypass velocity will lower the noise level is described.

Fluorine‐Free Soft Nanocomposites for High‐Speed Liquid Impact Repellence

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorine‐free soft nanocomposite coatings are developed using silicone oil‐mediated mechanical‐stiffness control, enabling ‘dry’ liquid‐repellent surfaces that resist high‐speed water jet impacts up to ∼60 m/s. By tuning nanoparticle loading and oil content, the coatings also achieve >90% optical transparency, amphiphobicity with impact resistance to ...

A wandering spray nozzle

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1967
SUMMARY A case is described where a metal nozzle from a lignocaine spray bottle became detached at laryngoscopy, passing unnoticed into the pharynx and oesophagus. It was subsequently recovered at laparotomy from the patient's large bowel where its further progress had been arrested by an obstruction at this site.

Dual‐Layer Living Hydrogel Enables On‐Demand Delivery of Phages and Probiotics for Synergistic Wound Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐layer living hydrogel, ProΦGel, integrates bacteriophages and probiotics for synergistic wound infection therapy. The outer gelatin‐based matrix releases phages on demand in response to P. aeruginosa infections, while inner alginate beads sustain probiotic delivery.

Using Long‐Chain Polymechanophores to Explore the Differences in Mechanoactivation During Nozzle Flow and Ultrasonication

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flow through a nozzle is a common component of most fluid‐based polymer processing techniques such as spray drying, inkjet printing, extrusion. An ultrahigh molecular weight multi‐mechanophore system is used to probe the differences in the distribution of mechanical activation observed between nozzle flow and ultrasonication; the gold standard ...
