Breakup characteristics of diesel spray droplets under small valve opening injection

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
A laser 2-focus velocimeter (L2F) was used for measurements of velocity and size of droplets in diesel fuel sprays. Diesel fuel was injected intermittently into the atmosphere using a 8-hole injector nozzle. The diameter of the nozzle orifice was 0.112mm.

Structure optimization of submerged water jet cavitating nozzle with a hybrid algorithm

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2019
It is critical to obtain a suitable geometry for a cavitating nozzle of submerged water jet, since a suitable geometry determines its cavitation intensity and cavitation distribution.

Elliptic supersonic jet morphology manipulation using sharp-tipped lobes

open access: yes, 2020
Elliptic nozzle geometry is attractive for mixing enhancement of supersonic jets. However, jet dynamics, such as flapping, gives rise to high-intensity tonal sound.

Dynamics of Post-Injection Fuel Flow in Mini-Sac Diesel Injectors Part 1: Admission of 1 External Gases and Implications for Deposit Formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Samples of unadditized, middle distillate diesel fuel were injected through real-size optically accessible mini-sac diesel injectors into ambient air at common rail pressures of 250 bar and 350 bar respectively.

Constant-output atomizer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
A constant-output atomizer includes a body which has a generally frustoconical expansion nozzle for producing an air jet when a supply of pressurized air is connected to the nozzle upstream of the throat of the nozzle.

Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Firefighter Nozzle Reaction [PDF]

open access: yesFire Technology, 2017
Nozzle reaction and hose tension are analyzed using conservation of fluid momentum and assuming steady, inviscid flow and a flexible hose in frictionless contact with the ground. An expression that is independent of the bend angle is derived for the hose tension. If this tension is exceeded owing to anchor forces, the hose becomes straight.

Computer program to determine the irrotational nozzle admittance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Irrotational nozzle admittance is the boundary condition that must be satisfied by combustor flow oscillations at nozzle entrance. Defined as the ratio of axial velocity perturbation to the pressure perturbation at nozzle entrance, nozzle admittance can ...

Intermetallic Compound Layer Morphology and Distribution in Friction‐Welded Steel–Aluminum Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, how friction‐welding parameters (rotational speed, etc.) affect the morphology, distribution, and local thickness of the intermetallic compound layer (IMC‐layer) in friction‐welded steel‐aluminum hybrid components is investigated. In the results, it is shown that lower speeds (700 rpm) lead to a more uniform, thinner IMC‐layer (<0.5 μm),

Numerical Analysis of Nozzle Flow and Spray Characteristics from Different Nozzles Using Diesel and Biofuel Blends

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
In this paper, the discrete phase model (DPM) was introduced to study the fuel injector cavitations process and the macro spray characteristic of three different types of nozzle spray shape with diesel and hybrid biofuel blend for several injection ...
