Entanglement between two subsystems, the Wigner semicircle and extreme value statistics

open access: yes, 2012
The entanglement between two arbitrary subsystems of random pure states is studied via properties of the density matrix's partial transpose, $\rho_{12}^{T_2}$. The density of states of $\rho_{12}^{T_2}$ is close to the semicircle law when both subsystems

Lipid‐Facilitated Opening of the ADAM10 Sheddase Revealed by Enhanced Sampling Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phosphatidylserine acts as a lipid trigger to enhance activation of the sheddase ADAM10. By integrating fluorescence spectroscopy assays with enhanced sampling molecular dynamics simulations, this study shows that phosphatidylserine promotes ADAM10 catalytic activity along with expansion of its extracellular domains, enhancing accessibility to scaffold

Generation Engineering of Heralded Narrowband Colour Entangled States

open access: yes, 2018
Efficient heralded generation of entanglement together with its manipulation is of great importance for quantum communications. In addition, states generated with bandwidths naturally compatible with atomic transitions allow a more efficient mapping of ...

Targeting the GPX4–FUNDC1 Interaction with Magnesium Lithospermate B Attenuates Sepsis‐Associated Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The diagram depicts the endothelial‐protective mechanism of magnesium lithospermate B (MLB) in sepsis‐associated lung injury. MLB binds GPX4 at Gly79, disrupts its interaction with FUNDC1, prevents mitophagy‐mediated GPX4 degradation, restores mitophagic flux, reduces ROS, and limits ferroptosis.

Islet Amyloid Polypeptide Modelled to Simulate Diabetes Co‐Oligomerized with β‐Amyloid 1‐42 Reproducing the Pathological Cascade of Alzheimer's Disease in Human Cerebral Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) was used to mimic T2DM, and Aβ42‐hIAPP co‐oligomers were delivered into the human mature cerebral organoids (COs), which reproduce typical AD pathology and significant neuronal death more closely resembling that of AD patients.

Functional Status of Solitary Kidney After Nephrectomy in Living Donors of Related Kidney: Is All That Simple?

open access: yesPočki, 2014
The paper presents data on changes in the function of solitary kidney after nephrectomy among living kidney donors. It was shown that in the early postoperative period, the glomerular filtration rate and creatinine clearance are greatly reduced, and in a

Boosting Photo‐Pyroelectric Effect via Tunable Polarization and Interfacial Defect Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports Ba(Ti0.85Zr0.15)O3 nanocatalysts with enhanced polarization and oxygen‐vacancy‐rich interfaces for efficient NIR‐II photo‐pyroelectric therapy. Zr doping boosts the pyroelectric coefficient and accelerates polarization switching, while oxygen vacancies improve photothermal conversion and surface reactivity.

Effect of Negative Pressure Therapy on the Inflammatory Response of the Intestinal Microenvironment in a Porcine Septic Model

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2015
In a swine model of ischemia/reperfusion injury coupled with sepsis, we have previously shown attenuation of secondary organ injury and decreased mortality with negative pressure therapy (NPT).

Rethinking the NPT [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), with over 160 parties, is the most widely adhered to arms control treaty in history, but it has been criticized throughout its existence. In 1995, it is confronting a fateful decision on its extension and its application to today`s world.
