On the calculations of azeotropes from the NRTL and UNIQUAC models

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 1993
Abstract The local composition models of NRTL and UNIQUAC have been used in predicting of azeotropic data for binary and ternary liquid mixtures of various types. Activity coefficients have been calculated using the temperature dependent parameters of the models.

Generalized electrolyte‐NRTL model for mixed‐solvent electrolyte systems

AIChE Journal, 2004
AbstractA generalized electrolyte Non‐Random Two‐Liquid (eNRTL) model proposed by Chen and coworkers is presented as a comprehensive excess Gibbs energy expression to represent the liquid‐phase nonideality for aqueous and mixed‐solvent electrolyte systems over the entire concentration range from pure solvents to saturated solutions or fused salts.

Thermodynamic modeling of CO2 absorption in aqueous potassium carbonate solution with electrolyte NRTL model

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2020
Abstract Aqueous potassium carbonate (K2CO3) solution is a favorable choice for CO2 removal due to low costs and lessened environmental impacts compared to amine solutions. To support process development of CO2 removal with aqueous solutions, we present a comprehensive thermodynamic model for the H2O + K2CO3 + CO2 ternary system using electrolyte ...

Modification of the NRTL model for ternary and quaternary liquid-liquid equilibrium calculations

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 1991
Abstract The original NRTL model is modified for the correlation of ternary liquid-liquid equilibria. The ternary expression of the modified NRTL model includes three additional ternary parameters and the ternary terms vanish when a ternary system degenerates to a binary.

Correlation of heats of mixing of liquid mixtures by the NRTL model

Thermochimica Acta, 1993
Abstract Using data for heats of mixing hE, the temperature-dependent parameters of the NRTL model have been estimated for 55 systems of binary liquid mixtures. In order to test the model thoroughly, systems of various types, including associating and partially miscible systems that have data for hE at more than one different isotherm, are considered.

Phase stability analysis using interval Newton method with NRTL model

open access: yesFluid Phase Equilibria, 2005
The Gibbs energy minimization using activity coefficient models and nonlinear equation solution techniques are commonly applied for phase stability problems. However, dependence on the initial estimates and multiple solutions for these highly nonlinear equations are common drawbacks for some of the conventional approaches.

Thermodynamic modeling of HCl-H2O binary system with symmetric electrolyte NRTL model

The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 2018
Abstract A comprehensive thermodynamic model is developed for the HCl-H2O binary system based on the electrolyte nonrandom two-liquid activity coefficient model. Partial dissociation of electrolyte HCl to hydronium cation and chloride anion is incorporated to account for the true species in solution.

Measurements and NRTL modeling of liquid-liquid equilibrium of dimethyl ether/bitumen

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2020
Abstract Solvent-aided or solvent-based heavy oil recovery methods have shown to be promising alternatives to the conventional thermal methods. Recently, dimethyl ether (DME) has been suggested as a potential candidate for solvent-aided recovery processes. Liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) of the DME/bitumen is essential for the design and optimization

Thermodynamic modeling of asphaltene precipitation in pure and mixed solvents with NRTL-SAC

Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2018
Abstract Based on the Yen-Mullins model for asphaltene precipitation, a novel thermodynamic framework has been established to model solvent effects on asphaltene precipitation for 13 out of 15 diverse binary solvents with predictive activity coefficient models, i.e., UNIFAC and COSMO-SAC.

Thermodynamic Analysis of the NRTL Model Using the Concentration Dependences of Excess Functions

Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering, 2002
Thermodynamic analysis of models of liquid solutions is carried out on the basis of the concentration dependences of excess functions. Using the energy balance plane, the applicability region of the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) equation is determined and constraints on the equation parameters are imposed.
