BDNF and NT-3 induce intracellular Ca2+ elevation in hippocampal neurones
NeuroReport, 1993The effects of neurotrophins on intracellular Ca2+ levels in rat hippocampal neurones were studied in vitro using fura-2 fluorescence microscopy. BDNF and NT-3, but not NGF, rapidly increased cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentrations in these neurones ten-fold to reach 1 microM.

The role of NT-3 signaling in Merkel cell development
2004Merkel cells originate from the neural crest. They are located in hairy and glabrous skin and have neuroendocrine characteristics. Together with A beta afferents, Merkel cells form a slowly adapting mechanoreceptor, the Merkel nerve ending, which transduces steady skin indentation.

Synergistic effects of BDNF and NT-3 on postnatal spiral ganglion neurons
The Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1997Neurotrophins have profound effects on the development and maintenance of neurons that compose the VIIIth cranial nerve. In the auditory division of the nerve, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and neurotrophin-3 (NT-3) have been localized to the sensory epithelium, and their respective high-affinity tyrosine kinase receptors (TrkB and TrkC) are

IDrugs : the investigational drugs journal, 2005
Regeneron, in collaboration with Amgen, is developing neurotrophin-3 (NT-3), a neuronal growth factor, for the potential treatment of neuropathies, as well as Parkinson's disease (PD). The product was inlicensed from Takeda Chemical Industries [179174].

NT-3: an Additional Neurotrophin Expressed in the Adult Rat Pituitary
Endocrine Research, 1999Neurotrophins mediate a variety of essential biological functions in the nervous system. Evidence has emerged that this class of proteins is also implicated outside the nervous system, in the pituitary. The study described here aims to understand the expression of neurotrophins in the pituitary.
