Ultra-Sensitive NT-proBNP Quantification for Early Detection of Risk Factors Leading to Heart Failure

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Cardiovascular diseases such as acute myocardial infarction and heart failure accounted for the death of 17.5 million people (31% of all global deaths) in 2015.

NT-proBNP: When is it useful in Obstetric Medicine? [PDF]

open access: yesObstetric Medicine, 2017
Pregnancy, viewed as a stress test of the haemodynamic system, may unmask underlying cardiac disease. Pregnancy may also induce de novo cardiac disease. N-terminal pro brain-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is a useful biomarker in all clinical conditions in which the ventricle is stressed and especially stretched in the general population.

Activin A–Activated ALK4 Induces Pathogenic Th17‐Involved Endothelial–Mesenchymal Transition in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus–Associated Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Autoimmune diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), are associated with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a condition that can lead to heart failure. However, whether T cells also contribute to the occurrence of PAH in SLE has not been clarified.

Prognostic Value of Admission Peak NT-proBNP Combined with Culprit Plaque Types for Predicting Cardiovascular Risk in ST-Segment Elevated Myocardial Infarction: An Optical Coherence Tomography Study

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease, 2022
Objective: Different culprit plaque phenotypes including plaque rupture (PR) and non-plaque rupture (NPR), and N-Terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) have been reported to influence clinical outcomes in patients with acute ...

B cells and systemic sclerosis interstitial lung disease

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Interstitial lung disease is an important complication of systemic sclerosis (SSc‐ILD) with high mortality and morbidity. Recent clinical studies in SSc‐ILD have led to FDA‐approved therapies in SSc‐ILD. Importantly, evidence from these studies has been extrapolated to guide management of interstitial lung diseases of other systemic autoimmune ...

Increased Thrombogenicity is Associated With Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction in Patients With STEMI—A Proof‐of‐Concept Study

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Up to 50% of patients with ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) develop coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). Aims This study aims to assess whether a prothrombotic state of coronary blood, defined by thromboelastography (TEG), is associated with post ...

Inverse association of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide with metabolic syndrome in patients with congestive heart failure. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: Metabolic syndrome has been shown to be associated with lower levels of plasma N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (Nt-proBNP) in the general population.

NT-proBNP for risk stratification of pulmonary embolism

open access: yesRevista Portuguesa de Cardiologia (English Edition), 2011
Pulmonary embolism (PE) is an entity with high mortality and morbidity, in which risk stratification for adverse events is essential. N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), a right ventricular dysfunction marker, may be useful in assessing the short-term prognosis of patients with PE.To characterize a sample of patients hospitalized with PE ...
