Analysis on Improving Utilization of Uranium Resource Based on Fast Reactor with Closed Fuel Cycle

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu, 2023
Fast reactor combined with closed fuel cycle can greatly improve the utilization rate of uranium resource, get rid of the dependence of nuclear energy development on natural uranium, and meanwhile, reduce the generation of long-lived radioactive waste ...

WHETHER ASIA IS EXPOSED TO NUCLEAR CONFLICT

open access: yesSecurity and Defence Quarterly, 2016
The analysis of the political-military situation in South-east Asia shows that it is a hot spot area which, in the future, might be a place of nuclear conflict.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Nuclear Strategy of the DPRK in Modern Conditions

open access: yesJournal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament
The global shifts of recent years have not bypassed Northeast Asia, increasing the conflict potential of the region as a whole and the Korean peninsula in particular.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

On China's Nuclear Doctrine

open access: yesJournal of China and International Relations, 2015
Nuclear weapons have played an important role in China's national strategy. China’s nuclear doctrine has a very strong continuity. Nevertheless, China has made readjustments in its nuclear doctrine according to the changes of its internal and external ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Collaborative Control and Intelligent Optimization of a Lead–Bismuth Cooled Reactor Based on a Modified PSO Method

open access: yesEnergies
Accelerator-driven subcritical (ADS) reactors with lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) coolants are some of the Gen-IV nuclear energy systems that can generate clean electricity and potentially transmute spent fuel.

Towards A Better U.S. Nuclear Strategy

open access: yesJournal of Strategic Security, 2014
The U.S. nuclear posture and the future role of nuclear deterrence is a topic that continues to be hotly debated. This situation will continue because of changes in the international security environment and the pressure to find reductions within the U.S.
