On China's Nuclear Doctrine

open access: yesJournal of China and International Relations, 2015
Nuclear weapons have played an important role in China's national strategy. China’s nuclear doctrine has a very strong continuity. Nevertheless, China has made readjustments in its nuclear doctrine according to the changes of its internal and external ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Collaborative Control and Intelligent Optimization of a Lead–Bismuth Cooled Reactor Based on a Modified PSO Method

open access: yesEnergies
Accelerator-driven subcritical (ADS) reactors with lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) coolants are some of the Gen-IV nuclear energy systems that can generate clean electricity and potentially transmute spent fuel.

Towards A Better U.S. Nuclear Strategy

open access: yesJournal of Strategic Security, 2014
The U.S. nuclear posture and the future role of nuclear deterrence is a topic that continues to be hotly debated. This situation will continue because of changes in the international security environment and the pressure to find reductions within the U.S.

Neutrino-nucleus DIS data and their consistency with nuclear PDFs

open access: yes, 2013
In this talk, we discuss the compatibility of different deeply inelastic neutrino-nucleus data sets and the universal nuclear PDFs. This is an issue that has lately been investigated by different groups but the conclusions have been surprisingly ...

Development of highly selective ligands for separations of actinides from lanthanides in the nuclear fuel cycle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This account summarizes recent work by us and others on the development of ligands for the separation of actinides from lanthanides contained in nuclear waste streams in the context of a future European strategy for nuclear waste management. The current

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Beyond the Shell Model: The Canonical Nuclear Many-Body Problem as an Effective Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We describe a strategy for attacking the canonical nuclear structure problem ---bound-state properties of a system of point nucleons interacting via a two-body potential---which involves an expansion in the number of particles scattering at high momenta,

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The Trump Administration’s Nuclear Posture Review (NPR): In Historical Perspective

open access: yesJournal for Peace and Nuclear Disarmament, 2018
Except for the Eisenhower administration’s threat of nuclear retaliation to even local non-nuclear and limited aggression, the Trump administration’s Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) is the most open description of US capabilities and strategies for ...
